Default Replacement Key

Hi all

I have a locksmith trying to make me a key for my 2001 EU import Impreza. He says he is having problems finding a key wide enough to raise the discs all the way up.

Does anyone know which type of key I need, is it different for an EU import. He does say he has tried a UK spec Subaru key.

Will this be ok? http://www.carkeyhelp.co.uk/products...onder-key.html
does anyone know which type of transponder I need?

Thanks

i would of thought that for an 01 car you would need the type that has the 2 buttons on it, that one is for a classic

Were Subaru able to inform you about the code for your key from the chassis number in the end?

I spoke with Subaru UK and they said if I went to my local dealer with proof of purchase they could fill out a form and send it to Subaru UK then Subaru UK could email the Subaru factory and find out the key code for me.

This seemed like a lot of hassle and I am sure they would have an administration fee as well as it taking a long time.

I replaced all the locks in the end and the ignition barrel, got a good deal on eBay, £55 all in with the key including transponder. Just waiting to get the car to the Subaru garage to have the key paired with the ecu. It seems that only Subaru can do this, you must use SSM and I can't find any way of doing it myself

Anyway all in all it has cost me about £150 (getting the car on a trailer to the garage included). Just for a new key from Subaru it's over £200 including pairing (that's if I had the key code). A new lock set with key is over £400 from Subaru!!!!!
