Default What to do?

I have my impreza up for sale but so far there hasnt been any concrete offers for it.

Ive got to the stage where its sitting on my drive and hardly gets any use.

Im not gonna give the car away for silly money as that is pointless and it would break my heart.

But i am probably doing less than 5k a year now and thats only because i choose to take the Impreza.

I could use my fiances car in which case i would be doing literally a couple of 1000 a year.

Now it breaks my heart to say this and some will think its scanderlous but at the moment getting the car serviced and insurance is well over a grand a year which to be honest is getting hard to justify.

So when does a cars value get to a stage when paying out literally a third of its value per year on servicing and insurance gets to steep and instead of specialist servicing etc i treat it as a regular car and just take it down the local garage once a year for oil and obviously bits that go wrong?

The problem with classics is that they aren't quite at the tipping point where they start to appreciate. It will happen but not for a few years yet.

The classic Impreza will be an icon car in the future - 205, Golf GTI, Mk2 Escort, E30 M3, Integrale. All the very best ones of these have gone up in value - the last two mentioned up silly amounts (almost double in the last 5 years) and the classic Impreza is unlikely to get to that point but good 205 GTI and Golf GTI are worth more than MY00 Classic Impreza. You can't get a really good 205 or Golf for under £3K.

My current ride is a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Orvis. Its group 17 insurance and if anything moer expensive to insure than an Impreza. Its also 4.0L and makes Impreza MPG look good. Servicing isn't cheap either as the parts are imported from the states. Its worth about £1500 on a good day.

Personally, if you can't sell it for what you want, just run it into the ground. Theres a chap in town who has a 1995 WRX import. He puts 95 ron fuel in it, doesn't clean it, kept outside 24/7 and just takes it to the garage across the road once a year for a service. He's had it for at least 7 years. Looks a mess but mechanically its sound.

Thanks for the post, thats what i was thinking, just run it till it goes pop then if i do need anything just a cheap simple run around.

Its a shame as its got to this stage as the car is in amazing condition with full history and would make someone who wants a good impreza very happy.

But as said there hasnt been any real offers not even cheeky ones so was thinking as the car is mechanically sound and in good nick i may as well run it into the ground as i know its history and know its been looked after rather than buying something a bit cheaper but not knowing how its been treated the last few years and watch it go pop in a few months.
