Default How much should I pay for a service?

Hiya!

My 2005 Blobeye STi is on 38005 miles at the moment, and whilst it had a full service approx 2500 miles ago, I need to get it serviced (6 monthly interval) to keep the warranty up to date.

I also need a cam-belt change, but I'm going to worry about that next month.

For the meanwhile, how much should I be paying for an oil change service at a main dealers, roughly?

Thanks for any advice, in advance!

Cheers,
Chris

Yours a JDM then with the 6 monthly intervals?
Oil change (depends on what oil) will cost you approximately 100-120 quid.

It dosent need to be serviced at a main dealers to keep warranty. You can have it serviced at any garage that is vat registered. Find a specialist and get it done there....

Thanks Tony, its not a JDM its a Type UK, but the bloke I bought the car from said part of the warranty terms specified that it needs to be serviced every 6000 miles/6 months, whichever comes first. I wouldn't mind getting a decent oil, so I'll budget £120 for it then :-)

I know it doesn't specifically need a main dealer service, but around where I live (Cardiff), I don't think there are any Subaru Specialists, so Main Dealer is the next best thing I think. At least if they bugger my car up I'll be able to go in and have a rant and they'll have to be professional about it, if I go to Daves Backstreet Garage and they bugger it up, if I moan at them, theyre response is likely to be "Nothing I can do about it mate, mustve been like it when I got it!".

You get the idea!

Thanks for the replies so far guys, much appreciated :-)

Chris.

Surely it is well out of warranty being a 2005 car? Oil change every six months is certainly a good idea, but if it was just done 2500 miles ago.........UK car service intervals are annual or every 10,000 miles.

Yeah the warranty is from the Re-seller. My parents were kind enough to purchase me the warranty as a present when I got the car, so I'd like to keep the it current by servicing the car in accordance with the warranty company regulations.

I also don't drive a huge amount of miles, maybe 5 or 6 thousand a year, so servicing it slightly more than is actually necessary isn't a massive cost consideration (which it would be if I did loads of miles!).

In an oil change service, do they do anything else, or is it literally just changing the oil?

If it is due cam belt service ( 50,000 miles or 5 years ) I would get it all done together and ring around for prices. Might even be worth travelling to a specialist as it is expensive service and the dealer will put a big big hole in your wallet. Oil change is oil and filter but still needs to be done by someone with some knowledge of Subarus in my opinion.

Yeah I agree that the oil needs to be done by someone with a bit of Subaru savvy, hense wanting to go to the main dealer to get it done as they should (and I emphasis should!) have the required knowledge to do a proper job.

I dont want to particularly pay a main dealer for the cambelt as I bet they'd charge through the nose for that. But again, at least they'd have the knowledge and tools to do it properly.

Any idea how much a cambelt service would be at the a main dealers? The normal oil service looks like it should be £120 or so, and I've heard a cambelt change is about £200, so would I be right in assuming it would be approx £350 all in, or am I way out here?

Cheers!

Technically, it would also include an oil filter, but after 2500miles, you would probably get away with not changing it as long as it doesn't void the warranty for the sake of £15.

I've been quoted £365 for a cambelt and minor service all in at a specialist.
