Gave my mate a shot of my ver 4 type r today and what did he do ?

Spun it of a round about and straight through a pedestrian barrier

Front end is anyalated. smashed my alloys . damaged down one side.

underneath is a mess as well. goes to garage tomoz to see exactly whats feked.

My mate has offered me £5000 to buy it or he will pay to give me it back the way it was .

fair play to him on his offer mate, personally i would take it and replace it, its a buyers market and as said above you dont know what standard it would be fixed to and you would also always know in your mind its not perfect.

That happend to a mate of mine. Freshly imported Type-R,his mate asked for a go on the mountain roads and tightend the diff up and ended up rolling it. He did give him the money the car was worth though.
He should at least give you what the car is worth.

I love the car to bits. I have seen work done before from the chap who'll be sorting it so it should be a high standard. The car was worth 5 k all day long. No way is he getting in the drivers seat again.

Take the money ! Bills have to be paid, mates disappear ! Presumably your mate was insured 3rd party due to having fully comp on another vehicle ?

In this country, we spell it "licence". But somehow I don't think you'd find that important.

Take the money, had a damaged car repaired once only for the gear box to pack up about a month after the car was back on the road - apparently it had damage that wasn't obvious to two separate "experts" - car was scrapped and I lost a lot of money

Get quotes for what the car was worth. Adverts from Autotrader, opinions from experts/garages.

Then get opinions and prices for fixing it. I'd get opinions on the state of the car from at least two sources. If they reckon it can be fixed properly with little/no issues, go with that.

Get the info and use it to come to an equitable agreement if that's possible. If not, take the £5Gs and smile whilst adding his name to the red book.

J.

Sounds like a write off to me - so here's an important lesson, don't let "drivers" drive your car.

A handy tip is anyone who can only do text speak, like half the posters on this thread, isn't intelligent enough to be given the keys...

I wrote off a mates car once.. He didn’t ask for a penny of me and he said he would take the blame as fare as insurers were concerned.

At the time i had about £2.51 to my name. So all i could do was offer to lend him my car. Obviously I felt terrible..

All my mate was concerned about was that everyone was o.k. and no one had a scratch on them. At the end of the day if he is a true friend can you take £5k off him for an accident? If that was my best mate who i have know for 20 years I would give him a boll*cking then go for a pint.. And let the insurer pick up the bill, sell the car and start again.

^ insurance fraud - everyone wins, hang on no they dont my premiums go up to ****ing pay for it!!!

If he was insured then let his insurance pay for it (if not then why did you let him drive it??). If he has no insurance let him give you the cash (loan or whatever he has to do - not your problem) to buy the car off you at market rate - mate or not unless his wife/GF/sister/mum is going to give you a lifetime of free gammies then £5k is a hell of a lot of cash just to write off for being a mate. He ****ed up tell him to take responsibility ( which at least it seems hes doing)

Yet another person getting caught out because they think R/RA's are like every other scoob

Thats the car stripped down and properly inspected for damage. The worst is there is a slight twist at the front of the chassis leg and will need to be put in a jig. I've had two independant repairers look at it and as long as its done properly it will be alright. All parts being replaced are new from subaru. The only problem is we are having a difficult time sourcing inovit ST VI alloys in gunmetal with polished lip . I love the car to much to walk away with £5k and then see someone else cruizing around in ma baby. Hopefully this decision will not bite me in the ***.

You must be off your trolley to keep the car, no matter how nice you think it looks mate.

hmmm who does the onus fall on to check that any driver of your car has the proper insurance...you,
if he got nicked he would be done for no insurance and you for aiding and abeting
if he has insurance then great claim on that if he hasnt and you knew it,,
well you took a chance and luckily for you you have a good mate many otheres would just walk away
