Default ECU help

Hello all, i have a 1994 wrx wagon, i've come to check the ecu to see what type i have and found this

Can anyone tell me what this ecu is off and also have any of you heard of a company called jspeed or tspeed? i'm assuming the ecu has been remapped as the company label's on the front and the security stickers are stuck around the lid to the ecu?

Cheers for the help

Does it have a switch hardwired into it to switch maps?

there is a switch on my dash, i wasn't sure what it was for tbh and the guy i got it off didn't know either, maybe this is the switch you mention

i'll try switching it today and see if it makes a difference to the drivability/performance of the car.

Is this ecu the correct one for a 1994 wrx wagon as if i've read it right, it should be a z4

I dont think it should be the Z4.

Not quite sure what the switch will do so please use with caution.

i tried the switch and it made no difference to the drivability/performance. I have a high and low boost switch on the dash and this switch is next to it, maybe it's to switch between maps for high and low boost settings.

Is there anyway i can find out for sure without paying for a mapping session?

Or has anyone got the contact details for j speed so i can ring them and see if they have any info on it? i did google them but it never come up with anything.

The Z4 is for the wrx saloon, you have a wrx wagon, the saloon runs more power (240ps on super unleaded) and has a larger TD05 16G turbo, the wagon runs the smaller TD04 with 220ps (on super unleaded), so probably why your ecu is different
And before you ask, no you cannot put a z4 in there

ok cheers, i'm new to Subarus so at the minute it's all a learning curve for me. I've been mad on tuning Rover turbo's for years now. I'm not planning on putting a z4 on, as the one thats on here is good enough with the map thats on it for now. I'm just trying to find out as much about the car/goodies as i can so i know a bit more about tuning them etc.

Open the ecu up and see if there is a chip on the bottom right hand side of the circuit board if so J1 resistor will be or should be cut. You can fit a z4 ecu but you need to fit the relevent turbo to. I believe the z4 give 260ps.

Yup, my mrs had a wagon, swapped turbo over, slapped in a Z4 and oh yes...what a difference!

just to update, i've found some info on j speed, turns out they're in japan, the ecu has been fitted and fettled with by them in japan, then the car came over here. looks like i'm gonna have to get a mapping sesion booked to find out what the ecu's been mapped too.

I very much doubt you will find anyone over here that can map them unfortunately.

Will either need an ESL live mapping daughterboard added and mapped or aftermarket ecu such as simtek or syvecs IMO.

is it possible to at least plug into it to find out what settings they've used?
