i have a classic wrx wagon 96 pre facelift. on driving today the turbo doesnt whistle anymore, it just whines really bad and there is no boost. I had to drive at 2.5 revs all the way home. No engine lights have come on. What is wrong with it? when putting the foot down usually after 3k revs the car whistles then goes now it just whines and drives like an non turbo.

there seems to be no air leaks/sounds the AA guy was out and thought the bearings? have broken into the downpipe. thinks the turbo is gone. didnt tow and said i could drive off boost at my own risk. what do i do now, replace the turbo? does it need actuator set and is it a hard job. id say my skill level allows me to replace radiators, brakes, and suspension never done a turbo before.

You'll be able to do the turbo if you can do all that, I'll give you some pointers if I meet you tonight

I've got nearly new gaskets you can have too, or you might be better buying fresh ones from importcarparts.co.uk
