Default Zero/Sports Air Intake Pipe Kit - does it work?

was going to get one of these and then wrap it to stop it getting hot - is it worth getting - or wasting my money?

does it work?

Yes it does reduce the turbulence, but so what tbh, it's a 100% tarts part. Get a pretty samco, looks better and theres even less turbulence

Can't comment personally if they work or not, but when I was looking to fit one my mapper warned me against it.

I bet he just disparagingly wrinkled his nose no reason to warn about them, no harm except to your wallet

I've fitted the zero sports one to my 08 STI (because the OEM one kept slipping off)

Dunc from Dynamix said he's not seen any advantage to them, but I agree, they look great

Comment from Bob Rawle ( one of the most experienced mappers out there)

"The Zero sports hard pipe affects the output of the mass air flow sensor so don't drive aggressively until the mapping has been checked and adjusted to compensate. Also be wary as the hard pipe could transmit more vibration into the maf with the correspondingly increased risk.

The best pipe is actually the stock one as long as you are using the OEM ecu and GC8 maf.

Its not so good looking of course.

cheers

Wonder if that would still be the case?, as at each end of the hard pipe is a Silicone joiner, ......would that not reduce any vibration????

Logical speculation, nothing more IMHO It could be concluded that the corrugated design of the OEM pipe is more sympathetic against the potential effects of vibrations from the engine to the maf. However, fitting a zerosports/samco type replacement would see would minimal increase in vibration transmission when buffered by two end pieces of samco type pipe.

With the greatest respect an opinion on pipe construction is of no greater or lesser weight for being a respected mapper. Efficiency yes, cause and effect no.

I would imagine going over potholes or even our not so great post winter roads may cause harder vibrations on the maf?

ive had lots of evo's 5,6's with the hks rs hardpipe kits and the induction one that connects to the maf and never had any problems, different car but a much bigger pipe and defo doesn't fit as well and snug as the pipe your on about as the airbox was removed so i would say it would be fine.

had one on my last sti5 and swapped it to my new one, all mapped up on both cars by andy forrest. No problems with either application.

Not made a blind bit of difference as far as I know but it dont half look pretty!

Hey guy's sorry for pulling this old thread up but it was one of the few talking about the effects of that pipe wichw i found on google.

In my 02 sti is that Zerosports pipe build in and i would like to change it against the oem part. My car was mapped with that Zerosports pipe and i am not sure if i could change it to OEM without any problems. I only remember that playing around the intake is always a problem without a mapping - if i am right. But on the other hand...it's just a few cm pipe!

The main reason to change it is because here in Germany everything that doesn't look OEM could start a discussion with the police boys.

Regards and sorry for my bad english!
