PROBLEM???? car just went bang????
I have just had my car remapped. its a 04 wrx sti type uk. have been driving the car quite a bit since i had it done yesterday, but not really hard all the time.
I have just been out and was going fairly quick, when i lost power (acceleration) for literally a split second and heard a loud bang and the engine management light came on? Any ideas??
I have also noticed at certain times when i hold the car at certain rpms the car seams to be very very slightly holding back VERY slightly then going faster, then holding back slightly and on and on?
I thought i could hear the turbo spining fast then slower then fast then slower just before i heard the bang.
The car is running at about 1.4 bar.
When it was remapped it seams to be running a lot smoother and quicker. Other than the above, I have had no problems with the car since.
I have used exactly the same fuel out of the same petrol pump, before, during and after the mapping.
I have also had the "pill" in the pipe changed to restrict the flow more.
?????????
I have checked for any oil since i have parked up and have checked around the engine and evrything is fine.
The car seams to be running ok, but i havn't pushed it at all since the above happened.
Please help!!! Getting it put on launch tomorrow morning to see why the light came on!

i havn't upgraded the fuel pump. Was told by numerous peeps that the standard wrx sti type uk pump would be fine?
How would the pump cause all of the above though?

im guessing that your pushing 320 330 brake ?........ your standard pump is beyond its limits at those levels and would struggle to support the higher flow of fuel needed for the map.... hence it feels like its holding back......
btw prodrive pack at 300 bhp includes walbro uprated pump....
im running 345 with prodrive pump and runs sweet as a nut... hth..

thanks sivo. i just wanna learn as well as fix thats why i asked. i was thiking i would be getting about 340 break. i have a new 3" pipe from the back of the front cat all the way to the back box with a 5" outlet. I have a K&N new panel. A baileys dump valve and a 22b turbo.
I have also just checked and there were 2 special clips on the ends of the pipe where the guy fitted the "pill" restrictor and these clips have not been put back on. Is the pipe of off the actuator that the pill is fitted to?I think that is what it is called anyway.
Its the walbro 225 i need to fit isn't it?
Thanks

no problem mate..... personally i wouldnt fit a dump valve ...... the 2 little clips on either end of the restricter pill pipe imo should still be there..... my mapper replaced mine with small tie straps/cable ties.....

i have been told it is a 22b turbo which is better than the standard??? thats all i know unfortinatly.
I think he accidently forgot to put the 2 clips back on. so i will get them sorted tomoz when i get the launch put on it to check the fault.

Check out the Grooup Buy section on here. I had a 255 Walbro fitted and am now close to it's limit taking into account 6 years fitted so got a Hi Flow Walbro. Yes the 255 is plug and play but for the bit extra get the Hi-flow and then you are covered for a higher level. If I remember correctly the 255 walbro is good for 450 bhp (ish) the Hi-flow over 500 bhp. If you go for the Hi-flow let me know and I will let you know what I had to alter to fit it.
I am not planning on selling my old pump as I always keep the old item just in-case, to much time in the military and used to working just in case .

IMO you would need the map tweakin buddie.... as above, try and determine what blower your runnin with..... im no expert but im pretty sure your mapper would need to know your spec turbo before tinkering and resetting boost/air & fuel............. until then i doe wanna spoil ya fun but try and drive off boost till its sorted.... ...... just in case........

1.4/1.45 bar is safe on the vf35 turbo and i also had mine ported to control boost creep, holds boost really well and pulls like a train between 3.5k and the red line...
if you have a different turbo i would research its limitations and make sure your not pushing it too hard.....

i am gonna get the car plugged in tomorrow and check why the engine light came on, then speak to the mapper. I am also going to check the turbo code tomorrow. As a precaution i am going to order a 255 walbro turbo to be fitted soon and find out whether it does need to be remapped when fitted, tahnks for your help peeps.

Be careful, too little fuel means more heat and possibly holed pistons/ other damage. Take it easy until you know whats happening, no full throttle or high revs.
