Pretty sure the Jap Imports will be WRXs whereas the the UK cars were called Turbo 2000 AWD.
Notable differences are the badging onthe boot, the aerial placement (A pillar for the UK cars, rear wing for the JDM) and I think the JDM cars have a rear wiper whereas the UK cars don't. The V5 should also say declared new at first registration for the UK cars or some such wording.
Pretty sure the JDM cars have a bit more power as standard and a better climate control if fitted than the UK cars. UK cars benefit from a better alarm and undersealing. The key for a UK car should have a blue Subaru badged alarm fob with it. This operates the Sigma alarm and immobiliser.
There is probably more, but that is off the top of my head.

Just check the car is properly undersealed and hasn't got any rust and you will be fine with an import.

Also I think the radio and heater control surround is different in the imports - no bright switch on an import. Can you live without the bright switch I wonder
