get someone to watch the clutch arm when you pump it, Is it in its normal resting position before you pump it and does it pump out to a normal disengaged position? if yes its the hydralic system probably the slave if you can still pump it,
you said it went with a bang.... Audible bang??? thats my concern you wouldnt usualy hear a hydralic falier

i had this on my works van a couple of weeks ago......in the end had a job to get into gear/out of gear.
not sure how they fixed it though? think they had to drop the gearbox to get to the clutch and fix it.

What sort of Bang?
Hi,
If a bang from inside Engine bay (must have been real loud) then could be costly trouble. If a clunk or thud though caused by pedal falling to the baulkhead with your foot on top of it, then I suspect the slave / Master cylinder.
The fact that you can pump the clutch and get it working again suggests a hydraulic failure to me.
On my old MY94 WRX, my clutch pedal used to fail to return to the 'up' position occasionally - I'd have to flick it back up with the edge of my shoe and sometimes pump it to get it to work again. A month or so later and it was a new master / slave cylinder refit and never played up again.
Hope it is something 'cheaper' (not that cheap though) like this for you...
Peeps on here are very knowledgeable though, and helpfull too.
Mart.
