Question Does the WRX suffer the same Engine issues as the STi?

As above ..... ?

And, if it is a mapping problem, does having a ppp remove the issue?

Is my 2010 WRX-S likely to suffer from the same engine issues as the STi?

I don't think so,

The STI and it's original OE map has caused a few to crack their hypercast type pistons... Subaru UK have never admitted it was a recall issue and released a re-flash to remedy the lean spot at red-line. A number of prodrive cars (all STI's again) have also shared the same piston failure... some later than 2008..which begs the question what is actually causing the piston failure on some..with others carrying on without a hitch.

Doubtful, different engines, different maps, far less agressive than the STI map.

Yes the 2.5 in the WRX does have piston problems, the ones i have dealt with have had ring land issues, but at greater mileages like 50,000 plus.

My guess is not everyone bangs their car to the redline on a regular basis (i.e once a week plus). Mechanical sympathy and all that etc. (Pete will agree )

Maybe.... many of my 24k miles have been motorway cruising, so hardly testing...

Plus it only ever gets fed shell V-Power and fully synthetic oil...

Expensive Oil doesn't count for diddly if changed every 6 months ..... buy quality and it's all fine.

Super Unleaded, yes - simply drives better IMO.

And treating it with the utmost respect and mechanical sympathy.

These are the ways to trouble free motoring ..... glad that the WRX doesn't suffer.

Post above states WRX does suffer, but at higher mileages, 50K plus. 50k is not very good for an engine IMHO, not fit for purpose I would suggest!

It does worry potential buyers ..... but, posting on the other option sites shows problems with all new cars these days (maybe it was always so?) - you would never buy another new car if you believed everything you read on the Internet I guess?
