Do you have an MY97 WRX? Rolling Road Result for Ronnies Rocket! :)
#1
Just got back from Power Engineering with Graham Stocker, Andy Tang, Rich R and some Audi chaps (an RS4 watch it jump of them rollers! 364bhp!-Standard)
I have a 'standard' MY97 WRX with the following tweeks...
Scoobysport FULL system- Downpipe, centre and back box.
Piper Cross induction kit.
NO ECU MODS. 1 bar boost-Totally standard!
VF22 as standard.
Result:- 311 BHP@7553 rpms
276 lbs torque at 17 psi.
No knock issues at all on the runs (of which I only had two! ) and the torque graph is really
Now, I have heard people say "ming mong ming" about Power Engineering and their rollers but at the end of the day the RS4 got its claimed BHP and all of the cars on the day where roughly what every expected.
Thanks to Mervyn @ Power Engineering and the rest of the team there, and for the pi$$ taking I got from RichR anout My Shoes, etc etc etc etc
I had my engine guru, Bob Mac with me (he was wearing a scottish rugby shirt! booo hiss) who was very impressed and not at the least bit suprised. I knew it was a bit of a flyer, but perhaps not that good.
Now, if the rollers are not accurate then our cars become similar to having a medical condition-You always like a second opinion....maybe I will get one, but then Maybe I will sit back and say " well, look at the other cars there and their mods on the day, perhaps this really is bang on the money!" Well done lads.
Good day, I would post the graph and that however I have no scanner at the moment!

My S4 was dyno'd. Stock car no mods
Factory BHP 265 PE 255
Factory Torque 299lbft PE 302lbft.
My S3 on the same roller produced factory numbers.
The RS4's as Ronnie also said were making factory numbers. The modified one made 424bhp.
Mr Tangs UK car is a bit of an animal, with more mods planned.

Ron,
A word from yer uncle again
Rolling roads are a difficult thing... we had long (and hard) discussions about them on the Dutch BBS.
To cut a long story short (and I'm not trying to belittle your outcome on PE rollers, mind you): RR figures are nice for pub talk, but mean bugger all in real life, unless you are comparing same type of cars on the same RR on the same day etc...
Maybe PS rollers are to conservative, maybe PE rollers are to optimistic... it depends on so many factors (like the RR correction factor, tyres, wheels, RR load resistance, cooling, etc...)
One number that is more comparable than the "guessed flywheel number" is the power at the wheels. Still not comparable with other RR's or even the same RR on another day, but more accurate nevertheless.
Most turbo charged engines will underread on an RR BTW due to sub-standard cooling. Especially those with top mount cooling compared to front mount cooling. (those intercooler thingies really serve a purpose, you know )
And before you think "yes, but PS rollers are underreading even more": my car had 13 BHP more on PS rollers than on our one and only Belgian RR ... And that one is used by the courts in our country (and manufacturers BTW) to settle disputes.
But anyway, what really counts is your 0 - 200 km/h measurement. (on a track or on German Autobahn) if you want to know your usable power.
That is: if you want to measure stuff. What you really should be after though is:
. does this car have a big grin factor ?
. does it hold out ?
. can I afford it ?

Ok lets put it this way . My car 95 wrx 260bhp standard on higher octane fuel in Japan . Knock off a few horses running on 97 octane here but put them back on maybe? because of my Tanabe cat back exhaust minus mid box + k+n filter . What i am trying to say is i was on the same rollers 20 mins after Ronnie and my standard car came out as per standard 257bhp. So i would say figures for Ronnies Rocket !! were as we say in Bricklaying Spot on!. Graham.

Gotta agree with you m8, my 95 wrx (260ps model, same as yours) running on 97ron, standard except for a fujitsubo exhaust and blitz induction kit made 260bhp at power engineering. Pretty accurate IMO. (My graph is on the scoobynet dyno site, BTW)

Some good figures Ron, maybe you should get the car upto Powerstation and see how your figures compare. I would be interested in seeing the results, what was your Power at the Wheels? the most important thing about Rolling Road results I think?
Now all you need to do mate is get the car to Santa Pod

It was 215 bhp at the wheels. Dont know how good that is?
As for santa pod, hmmm I would, but I had a good enough session at Brunters the other day
Check the cd out H!

My S4 has a front mounted intercooler, and couldnt make factory numbers on PE's rollers. Neither could the S3 that ran today get close to bhp figures expected. The RS4's also with front mounted intercoolers just made factory numbers.
So are you all telling me Audi are selling cars that dont make the numbers ?
I ran back to back with Andy Tang and with his top mounted intercooler he got more power than me.
My STI & P1 with Backbox mods at PE made just over factory numbers.
If all the Audi's today had shown 10/15% over factory numbers. then maybe the rollers are optimistic, but infact MAYBE they are conservative as I couldnt make factory spec ???.

Ring 01895 464646 and ask for the Merv consultancy group. He will let you in on how Rolling Road work
Jonathan
Yes I do realise that messing with spacing of wheels will alter figures and operators can manipulate figures

Sorry just got back from a big weekend out, and all I've got to say is....
MY99 UK car with these performance modifications:
ScoobySport Backbox
ScoobySport Downpipe
Magnex Mid-Section (with resonator)
Unifilter Ram Pod Air Inductor
MRT Cold Air Feed Pipe (replaces resonator)
271 BHP @ 6573rpm
249 lb/ft Torque @ about 2600rpm
1.1 Bar (16psi) max boost
Bear in mind it was a cold day, so good figures were to be had.
Whether they're right or wrong, I've got a UK car with breathing mods that has a piece of paper saying it produced 271bhp!!!
