A bit of hesitance when selecting reverse?
Hello there,
Just a general question: 70% of the time when I change gear into reverse, the gear will go right in, but the other 30% is when it literally won't go in. I have to depress the clutch again to try and get it in, usually accompanied with a little bit of a crunching noise.
I'm pretty certain it's not a problem with the clutch, as it's perfect with all other gears. I do get a tiny bit of clutch judder in 1st when the car is cold, but I understand that this is very common with imprezas.
Is this a problem that can be rectified fairly cheaply, or is it more trouble that it's worth?
The car is a MY99 Impreza Turbo 2000 by the way.
Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

I've had this on probably every Jap car I've owned, new or old. Never been a problem long term, just a bit annoying when you're in a hurry and it takes a few tries to get it in.
I think all of my cars have had reverse bottom right (where 6th gear would be), whereas a lot of cars have a push and top left (next to 1st) reverse. Don't know if this has anything to do with it, mind.

my car does the same but otherwise the gearbox seems fine
i put it into 1st then let the clutch just bite moving foward about an inch then go back to reverse and it goes in ok but have no idea why it doesnt go in the first time
