Hilarious - Fast and Furious motorist jailed
from todays Metro
A driver has been jailed for 18 days and fined £14,000 for throwing a speed camera into the sea.
The 19 year old dismanteled the 10ft device three days after it clocked him breaking the speed limit.
Police recovered the camera with the film still intact. A court in Norway also fined him £300 for doing 70mph in a 50mph zone.
The guy deserves a medal....

Wasn't there a guy in this country who got done for Criminal Damage after destroying a Gatso that caught him. He got like a £500 fine or something which he thought was vastly preferable to a certain ban, lots of points, big fine, loss of license and therefore job.....
Matt.

Matt.
Anyone remember the film Cool Hand Luke, with Paul Newman? He gets jailed for walking down a street with industrial pipe-cutting tool, cutting the heads off parking meters. Could be a handy tool to have in the boot for these GATSO moments.
Where these people have gone wrong is not disposing of the evidence properly. Cut the mounting pole short enough and the camera will fit in your boot ;-)
***By the way, this post is intended to be humorous, and any resemblance to actions committed or planned is purely coincidental***

Oh yes, destroying Gatso's is what the responsible motorist should do, the Police then have to pay to replace them, instead of paying for new ones to be put up, and everyones happy (except you, and your dad).
Hehe, thrown in the sea, wonder if there were any decent underwater shots on the film too, perhaps they clocked a Russian Nucleur sub doing 70 in a 50 shipping zone.
Edited to say that this is also purely humourous, when I think of all the good a Gatso does, it makes me sick to think of one being damaged in any way.

Tut,tut!
This is a pointless thread, he was breaking the law and some of you condone and applaude this irresponsible act. 18 day - i would have given him 18 years. This sort of crime must not go unpunished, we all know that speeding is on the increase and what a danger speeding motorists are to society. Concentrate on the motorists, they are undermining our social values and way of life! - they are public enemey No1, Robbers, drug barrons, etc. leave 'em be, they do no harm! (unless they get caught speeding of course)
Lime - was that what you wanted?

Driving back from Powerstation on the A40 a couple of weeks back, I counted at least three speed cameras that had been dented/twisted/bashed so that they no longer pointed at the road and one that had been decapitated. What is the world coming to?
Apparently, it is quite common for curry, kebabs etc to be thrown over the lenses. I imagine the only crime you've committed is perverting the course of (in)justice. Now where's the nearest kebab van...

To be honest I have never been worried about the Gatso's as I've always seen them coming - touch wood. What I'm more concerned about is the new speed camera's that capture you speed over a certain 'variable' distance. I believe they are testing them up around Derbyshire. Has anyone got more info on these little beauties.
Looks like I have to invest in a radar - even though it will never be switched on as I don't approve in using illegal products.

I know all about "These little beauties". They measure ya average speed over a given distance, take a photo of the front of the vehicle and via OCR type software, match ya plates if you are speeding. It can process upto 350 individual plates at a time, so saying that you were speeding to get outta da way of an emergency services vehicle, don't cut it.
It does not however take a photo (or digital image!) of ya face. I thought I could use this to my advantage and claim that I didn't know for sure if I was the driver at the time as it's a company car (Vectra) I offered to pay the £40.00 though thinking that the fine was better than the points.
How wrong I was, they said "squeal on who you think the driver was or we will fine you £1000 and award you 6 points"
alternativley you pay us 40 and accept 3.
Bastuards
IMHO the digital camera is a grossly unfair method of traffic control, they would not tell me by how much i had broken the speed limit until i'd accepted liability and then essentially used bully tactics to get me to pay.
For the record i was doing an average of 49.88mph over a 400m distance.
I have seem kids sitting on wall firing air-rifles pellets at them and frankly, I hope they wreck them.
In years to come, i will be able to say that I was a statistic that justified the use of Digital Cameras, nation wide.
SORRY GUYS
Anyways, Rant over
I get me scoob 2morra

Between Utrecht and Amsterdam they use 'smart' camera's to read your licenseplate. These camera's are placed 10 or 15 miles from each other so they can calculate your speed. Radartrackers are of no use. The system isn't functioning for a year now so i think it showed some problems. It's scary to think what this system can do with your privacy, the state can track your phone, car, what more..

Can the cameras that read number plates read all the different fonts and sizes that are used in other EU countries? I doubt it.
I'm no lawyer, but isn't there a case that they're discriminating against UK-registered cars in favour of visitors from outside the UK, whose cars wouldn't be picked up no matter how fast they were going?
It sounds like the sort of legal technicality that somebody sufficiently patient, well funded and litigious might be able to use to escape a fine

With regard to these digital camera systems in Nottingham..........Say you realise you entered the zone speeding - and it takes your 'average' speed over quarter of a mile or more. Whats stopping you just coming to a standstill & waiting say 5 minutes to bring your average speed down ???? Even better, do a u-turn and come out of the catchment area. The second camera will never see you (!)
Just a thought - any ideas guys ?

You could stop but they have placed them along the ring road in Nott'm so stopping is impractical as is a U turn
The ONLY way to beat the device is to play by the rules
It has been argued that because the camera catches the front of the vehicle, that it disciminates between cars and Motorbikes. I, unfortunatley had neither the patience or the money to take this issue up, but apparently it has been done, although the offender had to pay £1000 and loose his licence FIRST
Before eventually having it returned and being refunded.
They have all drivers by the short and curlies with these damn digital things
Anyway speak to ya all later
