Lightbulb Front wheel drive scooby?

Has anyone thought of removing the prop shaft of there scooby to give you a front wheel drive only car and could it be done?.
Would you end up with a faster car that doesn't handle as good but is better on mpg and quicker 0 - 60 time?

RWD yes, but FWD?..... FWD is only there because it's cheaper to manufacture than RWD which is cheaper than 4wd.

Yes but if you removed the propshaft the engine would only drive the front wheels and it wouldn't cost any money.
Has anybody tried it? I done it on a Honda CRV for a while because the propshaft needed new bearings and it seemed no different

0 - 60 would be slower I'd imagine, not quicker. Mostly becuase you'd get more wheelspin.

I snapped the output shaft to the prop when launching at the strip. The car lost all drive as it sent all the torque to the rear.

As the car had a dccd diff I just locked it up and drove home in front wheel drive. I wouldn't recommend it.

Jesus.

It'd be slower, handle worse, marginally better economy. Oh and it wouldn't work unless you locked the centre diff.

Why would you want to make it fwd?

Mine felt like a super aggressive clutch slip, before it started sending power to the rear i could get it going eventually but had to be pretty carefull about stopping on any hills and such, to be honest it was a horrible drive home as the roads were covered in thick snow, and a 3wheel drive scooby drives like utter dogs **** in these circumstances

My car seamed a lot more 50/50 split then my mates uk car, which probably helped matters.

Buggered my front driveshaft doing donuts

Make it a dedicated RWD maybe.

Make it FWD? what's the point, you already have a huge selection of FWD shopping cars competition out there, just buy one of those

It could be done, there is a kit you can buy that kit car makers use when mounting these engines and boxes in the rear. It basically locks all the drive to, in your case, the front wheels. Remove shaft, job done FWD!! Don't know how long you gearbox, shafts and front tyres would last though

Answer no. Are you mad?

Handling will depend on the car set up not the driven wheels, 0 - 60 will be slower as you have less "grip" to get the power to the road.

I've seens kits to make the gc8 a drift car by removing the front drive shafts etc.

There was a video of a bloke on Youtube from New Zealand who converted his STi to RWD. Can't find it now but he never lasted long before he stacked it into a Lamp post
