Impreza Type R buying advice needed...
Hi, it's been a while since I've been on here. Last year i had a V3 STi, and after only a few months of ownership, the bottom end blew. I now want another 1. I have found a fresh import, 1997 Version 3 STi Type R. It has 98,000km on it. The dealer states that the car is producing 1.5 bar boost. What sort of power will this produce? Also, could this be making the engine weak? Last question, what sort of modifications would usually be carried out to create 1.5bar of boost? Thanks in advance, Chris.

1.5 bar is quite a bit, id expect it too have a fair few mods if its running that safely. Obviously most important would be to find out how its been mapped to that. Wouldnt want too be driveing it around if its just been wound up useing a boost controller. Also if you buy it and its a fresh import, first thing id be doing is getting it mapped again for uk fuel ( if it hasnt already been done ) My type r boosts to 1.3 bar then drops back to hold 1.1 and that goes well enough.

I'd be wanting a rebuilt forged engine too with that amount of boost!
If the dealer doesnt know the mods or has no proof of whats been done then leave it well alone, could well be a time bomb ready to go bang.
