GB270 or STI??
#2
as far as i know the GB270 is just a wrx with prodrive performance engine pack and suspension, came in two colours with limited build numbers. Performace was up form something like 220bhp to 270bhp.
The same year STI will be loads better, more power, stronger internals think the gb270 still came with a 5 speed where the sti the almost bullet proof 6 speed.
get the sti it will be worth the extra insurance premium

As above. The GB270 was just a means for Subaru to clear their WRXs before the hawkeye model was put to bed in favour of the hatch. As with so many "special" editions from Subaru these days...
Anyway, yes the STI is a better package. The GB270 wagon looks amazing mind you.

The GB270 was available as a wagon as well. It was a disappointing final farewell to the saloon/wagon newage. As stated some interior tweaks, suspension and exterior mod's.
You still had to up spec it with uprated and monogrammed seats at extra cost! Go for an STi and get more power, better gearbox and DCCD as standard. Only downside is now STi wagon version

ive got a GB270 Wagon and i love it to bits. I opted for this one because imo it looks amazing and drives great. I went down the STI route of thinking and wanted to keep whatever car i got as stock. The GB made more sense to me for a few reasons - i wanted a Wagon and standard hawkeye sti vs GB270 there was very little in it when i drove them.
Insurance is cheaper on the GB too.
That said, the STI has all the right bits that offer a great platform for future mods if thats your bag.
To be honest the main swing was the wagon element, plus i'm not too mad about the saloon GB270.

why do people think uk sti engines have stronger internals stevie
the 2.5 wrx gb270 have the same engine all good for 400 bhp with mods (thats the engine im talking about before everyone jumps on the bandwagon about clutch gearbox etc)

Ok mate I stand corrected but as far as I have always been aware that the sti engine had stronger internals ie pistons, rods etc compared to a uk car.
Sorry but a uk classic, bugeye, blobeye wrx as far as I know has a weaker internals so I stand corrected on the 2.5 hawkeye lump, you learn something new everyday but it has got a better gearbox lol
