Today my subaru broke down - HELP!
Hi guys,
Happy new year to everyone here...
so my 2000 impreza turbo MY99 packed up today.
Problem:
The problem first started on sunday - I drove about 2 miles in town to the garage and the car was runnign fine, no obvious problems. When i went to start to leave the garage it was trying to fire but sounded like only 1 or 2 cylinders were firing and it just wouldn't catch. I left it 5/10 mins and then tried again and it worked fine, fired up and off we went with no further problems.
Tonight i popped out, again going only 1/2 miles and the same thing happened again when i tried to start it. soudning like its trying to start on 1 or 2 cylinders but never actually starting. the car didn't start so i have had to leave it in town!
My instant reaction is that its spark plugs? or could it be the fuel pump not pumping enough fuel in or could it be the coil pack?
If anyone could share similar problems and solutions that wouldbe great!
Thanks in advance
Tom.

Well my 1995 M reg turbo 2000 has broken down on me so meny times the past few months i will give you a list of my problems.....
Fuel Pump
Head gasket
Heads
Cambelt
Radiator
sparkplugs
Some little sencor thingy by my batt
Yet another Fuel Pump (due to tesco's petrol being full of water)
And now
Some Relays or whatever keeps clicking when i put my footdown
So Colin has to have it back in again soon....
my car spends more time in the garage then it does with me now....
to be fair iv done 50 k miles in a year and half but im just keeping it going untill we strip it down and convert it into a rally car....
I hope you get your problem sorted sorry im not much help... check the spark plugs would be my first option as the fuel pump would prob just not fire up at all??? as mine did...

Probably the cold start system hasnt yet switched off from only running half a mile> Its quite likley the engine has flooded> Try cranking the engine with your foot flat out on the gas pedal> Modern cars of all make dont like to be used for short distances in cold weather> This is a pretty common problem. If it keeps happening first thing to do is fit a set of plugs and get the cold start sensor logged to see if its doing what it should be.

Thanks for that info
When you say get the cold start sensor logged, how do you mean?
Cheers.

The recovery truck driver said he had had 3 other impreza's [classics] with the same issue over the last 2/3days. I'm assuming it is the Cam sensor.
Will diagnostics show that even if the engine warning light has not come on?>
