possibly faulty sensor, crank or cam, maybe a inj going down so not firing correctly. any engine managment lights on. be worth plugging it in to a diagnostic machine.

no lights on dash. Ive been to 3 different mechanics and none know the problem. One said battery + starter motor. 2nd said glow plugs+starter motor, 3rd said distributor.

its always worth chnaging glow plugs in this cold weather, but they heat up so diesel can be ignied better upon compression. so if engines warm, its only aids diesel to fire up. stop in a halfords and they will do a free battery test for you, that will eliminate that. if starter motor is cranking and not sticking and is turning at correct speed, u can tell this as uve started car many times, i cant see it being a issue, but if its playing up then its worth getting it reconed and brushes changed. dunno whats meant by distributor as diesel is compression and not ignition, distributors normally give spark. unless its for injectors. does it bump start ok, if not off key, are u sure its not a intermittent imobiliser fault.

Shaking on idling could indicate one cylinder not firing.

Have you actually had it to a dealer, or just garages?
