Default FMIC.. BLACK OR SILVER???

i have just bought a fmic for my type r, the thing is the outside of the car looks all neat and tidy and sort of origional, so would i be spoiling the look of the car with a great big intercooler stuck there. so should i paint it black when fitting it or leave it silver???

dude, its your car?

youve got the cooler, so why not fit it and see how it looks in silver. if you dont like it, mask up and get the **** tins out.

best would be to spray etch primer first as this fuses to the metal then use ur satain black wont flake off then

Black should be better for heat transfer... but I don't know about the thermal conductivity of the paint and etch primers etc Put too many layers on and you could be insulating your intercooler reducing its effectiveness at transfering heat from the intake air

I don't know if this could be a serious problem - I expect Harvey will have done some tests if it's at all relevant

well im a car painter by trade so i no what im on about lol simple you can paint stright on with your satain black but i would advise to put a thin layer of etch as it fuses to alloy its what its made for

I did think maybe it might cause a problem but its been lightly keyed with 1000 grit wet dry to take the shine off (on the end tanks i never polished the core) then etch primer and a light coat of satin black been like this now for a year been on dyno and they did check the charge temp and said it was no different than the time before (had misfire probs under boost turned out to be coil packs)

and all our rolls royce and bentley rads and intercoolers are black when we get them from factory and they never suffer heat soak probs just leaks
