Thumbs up Opinions please... bonnet vent

Hi, thought I'd ask for some feedback about my existing bonnet vent over the air filter area:

I'm thinking of changing the small scoop thing back to a standard vent (if I can find one) - what do you think? Is it better as it is, or should I go back to standard like the one on the other side?

Cheers,
Pete

yeah, kinda leaning to the 'back to original' myself, having looked at my own pic for a while - the small scoop still has the blanking plate underneath anyway (as does the other one), so its not doing an awful lot really, and was already on the car when I got it.

As for the scoop on the other side as well, it would balance the car up visually, which would be better, but I think it may be too much having three scoops on the bonnet

Seems like alot of fuss to put it back again, might as well leave it as it is.
If i'm honest, i would have left it original, but if you like it leave as.

Back to the original.

I used to have one of those scoops, took the car out in a down pour.
The rain soaked the air cone filter and killed the maf within a few minutes.

Yeah, thats what I was concerned about - also was happy when I saw the blanking plate under it was still in place. Got a mushroom filter under there, so my MAF likely to suffer the same fate as yours did if it gets soaked.

Touch wood its been okay so far though, so its more of a visual thing really for me

It may be a wee bit of work to put back to original, as I'll have to get the correct vent (had this one on when I got the car) which may be in the wrong colour, so I may as well get a can of the right paint and do the rest of the stone chips and touch up work at the same time (my splitter looks a lot worse in real life than it does in that pic ) - but I do like tinkering with the car (just can't help myself sometimes) so I guess thats another reason I'm thinking about changing it

Cheers for the replies so far

Get a set of 22b vents and replace both
Those teeny scoops looks awful in my eyes, and if it doesn't do anything good get rid of it

If you have a cone/Mushie filter go with the wee scoop with blanking plate out. No water will go in, unless you are seriously unlucky.
If you have a panel go with original and take blanking plates out. They are there to let heat out not cold air in. That's my opinion anyway. I have had both and currently run a panel with open vents.

Interesting about them letting heat out, not air in - makes sense really. In that case should we be putting the blanking plates in during the winter and taking them out in summer?

Don't have the original panel filter / box assembly either, was thinking about trying to get them to revert back to standard instead of the HKS mushroom & hard pipe kit on it at present, but I do like the induction noise I must admit.

Car is standard mechanically apart from the IK and an aftermarket (non-decat) exhaust (and my DIY earthing kit)

edit to ask - Dee33223, did you notice any improvement in driveability etc with the standard intake over the IK ?

I think the original vents look good on your picture while the mini-scoops look very chavvy and detract from a very nice looking motor..

Me too, i'm unfortunately too lazy i mean too busy to get round to painting my right hand wing mirror and the stone chips while i'm at it (ooer mrs) on the bonnet (when the car finally comes back of course).

Ian.

Yeah, i think as the Scooby gets older and nearer to a recognised classic the remaining cars will look to return to their original condition, mine's original and fairly clean in the engine bay etc. Not modified either. She's quick enough for me, although.

know what you mean - besides, its far too cold to get a decent paint finish right now so may as well wait til the warmer weather

another vote for carbon effect... interesting idea, not sure tho - agree that they both should be the same to balance it out tho, it looks a little strange with one different than the other somehow
