Default Question on winter tyres.

I have 2 spare rims here clad in summer rubber. Is it worth on a scoob to have these converted into winter rims and put them on the front, or is it a case of having all 4 with winters?

Resoning behind this , is the majority of the braking is done by the fronts as well as the steering.

Next year I'll have 2 sets of rims, the old rims for winter clad in winter rubber and the new ones in summer.

Im not 100% sure but i think it would probably be a bad thing to have two different compounds of rubber fitted at the same time, remember winter tyres are a bit softer than the normal tyre

you talkin m+s patterns? you might find these scrub out really quickly as yes they are a softer compound and do we have enough really bad weather to warrant messing around changing wheels in this kind of weather??? but if that kind of thing floats your boat the logic is sound!!! do make sure you stay fairly close in profile to what is on the rear you dont want to put too much stress on the centre diff- it might even balance out the impreza's tendancy to understeer ( not that it matters when your chuckin it sideways on the white stuff ):-)

Winter tyres on all 4 wheels mate. Winter tyres offer huge advantages over summer tyres at this time of year. Don't go thinking like so many people that just because you have AWD/4WD you can deny the law of physics, no amount of driven wheels matter if you do not have traction and do not think that they are only for when it is snowing either. They are far superior to summer tyres then the roads a wet and cold. A summer tyres performance drops by approx 30/40% when the temps drop to around 7degC regardless of snow etc. Winter tyres start to offer performance advantages once the road temps reach 14degC or less.
There is lots of info on the benefits of winter/cold weather tyres just do a search of the internet.

Look at the links below for some further info.
