New Civic Type R
#1
Just read the Autocar/Auto Express write up on the Civic Type R and it looks an impressive package. Should give the WRX MY01 a run for it's money.
Also the new Integra, I think the so called RS-X won't be coming here. Do you think that the Civic will hit the spot?

Hmmm, depends what the performance is really like.
All Ive heard is "0-60 in 6.8", which is highly uninpressive, so I will wait and see what Honda say it can do.
If its going to be slower than the current Civ Type-R, and the Teg R, then who the hell are they trying to sell it to?
I mean, Im not exactly going to trip over my feet trying to rush to the nearest Honda dealer so I can buy a slower car, I hope the mags guesses are wrong.
Edit: The RS-X may still come to our shores, but only in a Type-R varian, like the current Teg does.

IntegraR,
I think that the Civic will be a little beastie. On paper it has more torque than the current Civic and even though it may have a slow 0-62 time, you have to remember that the official scoob UK MY figures are well off in reality.
I think we'll have to wait and see.

I hope it is a little Beast, indications are 200BHP and 145lb ft of torque.
Bit of a porker though, 1200kg's, thats 99kg's more than the Teg R, and its physically a smaller car, so guess who ate all the pies!!
It has big boots to fill, the outgoing Civic Type-R reaches 60MPh in around 5.7 secs, from a 1.6, so if they are going to make the 2.0l a worthwhile addition, then it has to be at least as good.
Oh well, 27th, all will be revieled (holding thumbs for a positive result).

£19 K for a Civic, S2000 for me.
I think they have over priced it, which would you rather have. Admittedly 6 Spd Box, 2.0 VTEC-i, sounds awesome, but Honda have gone away from this less weight, more power thing, which i personally think is silly.
I doubt very much they will be able to get the performance as good as current CTR, ITR, but who knows.
The New CTR is marketed at Mass Market, unlike the ITR and old CTR.
Me, i will wait for a Jap variant before considering buying one.
1st on the list for a test drive. I wander if they will let me test it on Track. LOL.

The impression i get from the autocar article
is that the civicR redlines @ 65000rpm which
is about 2000 rpm less than the current one.
The main advantage of the current 1.6 (b16b)
is the engine's ability to rev so high so
less torque but you're still getting more
speed in every gear hence the quick 0-60 and
a good top speed of around 140 mph,but then
the B16B is tunned to quite a high level whilst maintaining reasonable economy and reliablity.
I think the new 2.0 vtec engine is very similar to the S2000 engine so hopefully it
will be quite easy to extract similar power
to the S2000 version, without paying mega bucks.
