tricky one it should be but it all depends on subaru's policy on stuff like that.

it doesnt mention it as an exception in the service book mind

On MY05 STi Type UK, I had approximately 6 batteries replaced on Subaru warranty.
No questions asked!

My MY03 Stealth Wagon had the alternator replaced just inside the warranty & they threw in a new battery for good measure. This has since died & I had to stump up for it's replacement. Average life for each of mine was about 3 years. Yours seems a bit premature if only MY08.

tracker canes the battery apparently? Do you use the car much? if not and it's garaged think about an optimate or oximiser. You should get away with a bike one if the battery is fully charged and it's only got to compensate for the alarm/tracker current draw

Batteries seem to be a problem area on Subaru's. Had one changed on my blob after 18 months and having to charge MY08 STI fairly regularly. In saying that i am a low mileage user so this probably plays a part.

I would get it replaced under warranty but buy another one anyway. Changed mine for a Bosch Silver, which was smaller, lighter and had higher ampere-hour and cold crank ratings. Was problem free after that.

You will need the 561 400 060 S5 004 though I think a 563 400 061 S5 005 should fit as this would be about the same size as the oem battery

561 400 060 S5 004 (61Ah & 600A)
LxWxH
242x175x175mm

563 400 061 S5 005 (63Ah & 610A)
LxWxH
242x175x190mm

If you keep it garaged then I would recommend getting a CTEK 3600 battery changer/conditioner.

Run with sidelights on as the alternator won't charge otherwise being a smart type. I had Bosch Silver after the OEM one gave up. Dealer should replace it in warranty anyway as its a common problem. I was using a battery conditioner with my Bosch if car unused for anything over 4 or 5 days. Now the Bosch went back to Costco for a refund in warranty period and I got an Optima redtop which is expensive but CCA is something like 730A.

MY Battery has only just given notice that it is about to quit ....... 9 1/2 years and 97,000 miles ...... 4 starts a day on average.

Brilliant innings

They should replace yours if faulty.

hopefully subaru have sorted the battery charging system out, they have got a new system on the legacy that even has a temp sensor for the battery and an ammeter so it knows how much current has been drawn and how hot the battery is so it can work out how long it needs to charge for and at what voltage. very clever indeed!
