Question

A friend of mine has recently come back from Germany. Whilst there he hired a car and when on the way back to the airport to return home he had an accident. The only damage was to his vehicle as he hit a wall. He proceeded on to the airport where he returned the car and explained what had happened. The hire company said that they would deal with it, but he may lose his deposit (which he exepected anyway).

He has now had a letter from them informing him that he is liable for the whole amount as he failed to report the accident to the police. He has protested that he reported it to them at the time and they made no mention of the police and that he was leaving the country within 30 minutes of the accident anyway, but they are digging their heels in and making mutterings about he's lucky as he broke the law by not reporting it etc. etc.

Has anyone here got any advice or does anyone know whether what they are saying is correct or are they trying it on?

Thanks in advance,

tiggers.

Err, your mate is in the UK?
Hire company is in Germany?

Throwaway comment: Can they do anything to 'get' him?
