Coming home from football this morning i was having a nice drive until a hesitation at about 5000 revs then BANG !!!! the engine let go in a big way ( 16158 miles ). I think either pistons or big ends as the sound when my dealer asked to here it made heads turn for miles.
The thing is when people say that i have payed a lot of money for a few extras and a warrenty over an STI, ERRRRRR i think it was worth it.Has anyone had a problem like this if so advise would be helpful on where i stand with subaru??
regards
jason.

Jason,
Congratulations no seriously sorry to hear that, havent heard of any P1 letting go yet.
Have you done any mods?
What fuel do you use?
You should have no probs with suk, the warranty is very good that's why you paid the extra over an import!

Good luck
Rob

Sorry Jason - you will be OK with Subaru

We bought our cars at UK dealers at UK prices - you are now about to find out exactly why that is a great move!!

Hope it all gets sorted

Nightmare Jason! Let's hope SUK get it sorted pronto. You'll have to let us know whats happened to it and why. You don't think its similair to those problems with STi5's do you? Surely Subaru would be aware of those problems and sorted them out?

Jason,

Sorry to hear that mate.

My P1 has issues with burning oil, would appear this has been since day one, they are looking at replacing the value guides or the short engine!!

Hope you get it sorted soon, Alex

Jason,
Cannot understand why you would have a major problem with this amount of miles
As everybody says the P1 is a UK warrented car so you will not have a problem, when is the car going in ?? going to be interesting to see what turns up ?? could be detonation with lack of fuel supply (faulty fuel pump ??)

DrEvil,

Re your P1 burning oil, I don't know if it's of any interest, but having followed you from Dono to Northampton, I didn't see the slightest hint of smoke from your exhaust.

Jason, I feel your frustration. My '98 Legacy GTB was only 28,000 miles old when it had a critical meltdown during normal (although brisk) road use.

I'd be interested to know if the scene inside your engine looks anything like this:

Jason,

I was up north at Stan Palmer on Sunday, I was speaking with Ian the group sales director, they were closing and he asked me to help him push a car it was your P1. He said how the hell did the customer blow it up! we even took a look under the bonnet and saw oil around the turbo air, does not look good M8, I am sure they will sort it under the warranty.

Regards

TC

If they've been pushing the car around, check for dents in the bodywork - it's a bit thin !
