Default Engine advice please, i'm lost!

ok a few weeks back after a trip down to Reading i heard some knocking noise from my engine. I have the car recovered home as it din't sound healthy. A few days later i got it to a local garage where the guy said it sounded like the big ends have gone but wither way it needed an engine rebuild and was not a job they would take on and advised me to talk to zen performance as they're just up the road from where i live.

I spoke to the guy today and he said he wasn't really interested in doing a cheap rebuild and said he'd have to strip the eninge completly and check every single component etc and said if he was to do it i'd be looking at at least £2700 + VAT

This is not good news for me i was under the impression it would run me around £1500 to get it all done and back on the road.

I only have around £1500 to spend so what the hell do i do? I know it's hard to answer without knowing the full problem with the car but taking into account that it probably does need a rebuild what shall i do? Is this price of £2.7k going to be pretty much the same wherever i go? If not where i can i go? I could go for a second hand engine but cant seem to find one anywhere and even then i wont know its condition untill it's been bought and fitted

I honestly don't know what to do and as you can tell i'm not very mechanically minded what do you guys think?

** Car is a pretty juch standard 2003 blob wrx with 53'000 miles on it and a full service history. God only knows why the engine has failed i dont drive it that hard, i've never taken it on a track and i dont red line it everywhere i go

Thanks in advance

Jonny

Hi mate your cheaper option is to buy a new another engine and swap them over instead off rebuilding the one you have obvousley you wouldnt have the guarntes you would have with a rebuilt one.

I break scoobys and even from my perspective ZEN are legends in what they do you never get a bad thread about them and all there customers are loyal.

I've heard the same but there customer service is crap lol plus the guy sounded very arrogant.

Way back I had what sounded like the bottom end go....it turned out to be a waater pump. Get a second and third view of the situation.

Grade A breakers - should be able to do you an engine for a reasonable price.

Find a good independent specialist to fit
