My Rota's are a 48 offset. I think the ideal for a Subaru is 53. Think the 35 might be a little too small and throw the handling etc. I'm no expert so hopefully one will be along soon!

If you put 18 inch rotas on your car with a 48 offset the centre of the wheel will sit 2 mm closer to the suspension leg this is not a problem.

The std offset is 53 on 16 inch rims so if you fit 18's they will go on fine with no problems but if you want the std clearence back you will need 2mm spacers to bring it back inline with OE offset (assuming that you go for a 7.5 rim width 8 rim width would need arch rolling)

here you go this is an offset caluclator to work it out for you.

is that rubbing on the suspension at all or the arch?
If they are 7 or 7.5 width thats a good width unless the new wheels are 8j they wont be wider.

Use this calculator to determine the effect of changing your wheel width and offset. First enter your current wheel width and offset. Then enter your new wheel width and offset. Next click the calculate button. It will show the clearance between the inside of the wheel and the strut housing. It will also show how far the outside of the wheel edge will extend or retract. If you reduce the inner clearance too much or push the wheel out too far, the tire might rub or not fit at all

48-53 is correct for a classic with 215/35/18 rubber

post a pic of your wheels on your car?
