My 94 WRX has three centre console guages one measures turbo boost the other volts and the other temperature.

My question is does the temperature gauge read the external temperature or engine temperature ?

It seems to fluctuate greatly registering cold when warm and vice versa?

 

I have a 95 WRX and I have the same three guages in the middle. It took me ages to work out the temperature guage but it measures internal temperature - inside the car. I think the sensor is down low near the feet though because when you put the fan on hot and direct it towards your feet it seems to go up quite rapidly. Try it out and see

sorry not got any real technical know how to answer this but have you look to see where the wire comes off of it to (somewhere in the engine bay maybe) is the lead broken down or does it have a bad connection anywhere

I've been wanting to fit some gauges into my 93 WRX console. Do either of you have a picture of yours so I can see where it fits and what it looks like.
