Default What percentage of Impreza owners are W*ankers!!

I've recently upgraded to a MY04 WRX Wagon after owning two Scoob Sports. In the six weeks I've had this car I've had my fair share of Saxo, Cooper, Civic and Corsa hounding but by far and away the most annoying, poorly driven and dangerous antics have come from other Subaru drivers!! I've been tailgated, cut up, underpassed on the inner city ringroad or forced to take evasive action or brake suddenly. Yesterday, some fool in a T plate RB5 zig-zagged thru traffic to get to my tail, passed me on the inside as I moved over to the right approaching an island only to find that he too was turning right but at such a pace that his car was losing traction and drifting towards oncoming traffic. As I caught up to him due to volume of traffic he slowed right down to crawler pace, let the cars in front of him get some distance ahead and then clogged it as hard as he could to catch up with them, shot straight over a mini island where his car became airborne and then turned right at the next mini island before the raised area!!. How impressed was I!!! Any one else in the vicinity would see two Subarus - (one being driven by a ****) and come to the conclusion that all Subaru drivers are the same. Well, I'm here to tell that we aren't. If there are any Impreza drivers of the **** variety out there who want to drive around showing how fast you can drive, or how loud your exhaust is or how badly you can drive please keep away from me.
Apologies for the length of post but we pay more than most motorists to drive the cars we do because we're enthusiasts. We need to change the poor image of boy-racing Subaru drivers by acting more responsibly.

Well you see, if you have full leather seats like I have in mine you would never have that problem.

I actually dont see too many problematic scooby drivers about. In fact I see a fair share of elderly folk driving around in WRX's and STI's.

What does annoy me is when you see some chav in a 1997 classic scoob with big stripes and loud exhaust booting it around residential streets giving every other subaru driver a bad name!!
No offense to anyone driving around in a 1997 subaru who isnt a chav!

That is a day to day thing in manchester i get slagged off all the time by my mates for being "a chav" just coz i drive a subaru! i had my first subaru when i was 18 which was 11 years ago and there were hardly any around then and if there were they were driven by older people and there was no mention of chav then

Very well said OP. I estimate around 35% of Impreza drivers are complete idiots/chavs.

.. surely you would need to know the total number of Impreza owners divided by the number of days in a week times the BHP ..

Most of the people who drive cars that way ( whatever the make and model ) tend to only do it for a short time before they end up wrapped around a tree, lose their license, and then cant afford to buy another car as the insurance refuse to pay out because they were fiddling it on their parents insurance, or uninsured in the first place.

TBH, I think most Imprezas are bought by people who are driving enthusiasts, and are probably safer and more considerate than most mums in 4x4's, myopic merc owners, reps in bottom of the range BM's and Audis etc... or 17 years olds 5 up in their mums Corsa.

I have seen a few really bad drivers in Subarus, normally booting it in 20 or 30 zones to try and impress people, but they are few and far between.

I've seen a few (but not many) driven badly.

Last one was on the A1 at Stevenage when I saw one up someones ar$e with his front fogs on. Was a silver blob with a SIDC sticker in the back window.

I was going to post his (personalised) reg plate on here and tell him he was a tit, but thought better of it.

You know who you are!

I usually try to drive mine courteously as I know most people have a bad impression. Doesn't always happen, though.

I know its just me, but whenever there's another scoob about, I'v always entered embarrassed driving mode, I hate to look like a **** infront of other scoob owners, and kind of keep an awkward distance, even if it means driving much slower than usual, but I guess thats just me.

I've never had a problem with another scoob, most people still even wave (although never had a hatch wave back). And i've nearly always chatted to other owners if I see one on my frequent petrol stops (had a spec C owner chat to me, the very first time I filled up, I knew from that day on the community was going to be sound)

I've always loved the classic shape, but sadly they are all too affordable to ******* nowadays, they are usually the ones giving scoobs bad names ,obviously the majority of classic drivers are great guys and gals, but as time goes by the stats are change in the chav favour

I am very aware that they have come to been seen as a chav car and therefore try to drive as maturely and considerately as I can, only giving it a bootful when the road is clear and conditions allow.

Due to their low second-hand values, earlier Scoobys have just about reached the low point in general esteem that was occupied by Cosworth Escorts and Sierras a few years ago. Let the chavs have them, badly mod them and write them off and scrap them. In 10 years the vast majority will have gone and they will be seen again for what they really are - superbly reliable and practicle performance cars.

I realise a lot of people will assume I'm an old **** but I'm still under 40 and I certainly drive mine as it was designed to be driven, but only when I'm not risking other people.

Ive had a n/a subaru for a couple of years and didnt get many problems. Since upgrading to an 02 WRX last week almost everyday Ive had some idiot trying to strut there stuff.

I dont really give the car too much, I just enjoy the drive... I paid a reasonable amount of my hard earned money for my car, Im not about to start driving like a tw@t to write it off..

It is a shame people do that to the image, but then the impreza's image in the eyes of many is far too long gone to do anything about it it is also very true that the people you see racing about like lunatics do crash their cars, sooner or later it'll be loud pedal, oh ****, skid thump stop, recovery lorry and another Cat c/d scoob

Have the same problem in my local area, there is a few scoobs all owned by the older drivers {30's to 40's} they've never caused any problems in the public eye. None of us have been pulled over by the police, we dont even get a 2nd glance from them.
That all changed last month when a young lad bought a white bugeye, he is acting a complete tw@t in it. That has caused the police to hound all the owners in the area.

Just last week I was stopped twice and followed 4 times, in the 2 years of owning the car this is the first time Ive been pulled.

I find *its in Fords are the worst... took a trip to Weston-Super-Mare yesterday and a couple of lads tried to catch up with me from a side turning as I went past on the main road, in a crap Fiesta too.. had to laugh as they spun up the wheels and went no where.... why bother lads?

You're missing the point here Lucko - I think you'll find that a 04 WRX Wagon, just like it's prettier sister, the WRX saloon, is capable of surpassing 20 miles per hour, in fact it would probably do more than that in reverse!! You're in the area, why don't you come along to the next Curborough Sprint meeting and find out. By the way, you don't drive a RB5 do you!!

It's not just scooby drivers, The corsa VXR has it's fair share, I have a corsa VXR at the moment and find that people just want to race you all the time, I find it's best to just ignore them

Removing spoilers and badges sometimes helps, though I've had drivers follow closely to try to figure out what the car is.

Was thinking of rebadging as a 1.6 TS as a joke, but Subaru parts dept. usually want chassis number and your inner leg measurement before they will quote.

My ex seen my classic and said "oh my god if we were still together i would of finished you for buying that car!"

When i asked why her exact words were "just because they're a chav car and what they represent"

As i am only twenty years old i know that when seen i get automatically categorised as a chav/drug dealer but i am none of them! It is annoying because i work f***ing hard to pay for that car!
Due to this i only ever boot it on a clear road and when i think its safe to do so, i'll never do it on a road i don't know or if i can't see whats ahead clearly!
Plus i quite enjoy cruising at a slower speed to be seen
