subaru help
Hi all
im new to this site and thought it would be a good idea to join as im thinking about doing a subaru conersion on my vw sand rail. The car is used to off road trial (basically going up steep mudy tracks) but im looking for an engine with more power and that will give me a bit more ofa sports car on the road.
The engine needs to rev pretty high and im looking for around 180 - 200 bhp. Iv been looking at the EJ20 single turbo 2.0ltr. Iv been told that it is smooth and has little lag. Also i need high torque as the class im in have things called restarts. Ths means i have to go up a steep track and on the worst bit stop and then go forward again at the drop of a flag. This is normally done by slowly creeping off but a lot of the time you need pure power and 2nd gear to get you going.
Any info would be much appriciated and if your interested go to you tube search "classical trials" or "ikley trial"
Thanks Liam

Hi Liam, 180-200bhp is no problem for these engines but if you want a "pretty" high reving engine then you'll probably want an old STi engine as these rev higher than the standard WRX and non-STi variants. (6500rpm compared with 7500rpm+) I think. Goodluck with the project, sounds like it will be fun. Gareth
Not sure if it's the same as a forester, I was talking Impreza's. There are alot of these engines about though, just take 5 mins on eBay or salvagers sites and you see lots. Just depends on how much your willing to spend? Have a look at API Impreza they do engines of this nature and David there is very helpful. Even if you don't buy one from them, David is a very knowledgeable Subaru person and he might have more answers for you than I do.
