Scoobies loose 50% in value after less than 18 months???
#1
I am selling my Impreza, due to the arrival of a BMW Diesel, which in turn is due to business expansion leading to mega motorway mileage.
Best PX offer so far.....£15,000 Most are offering £14-14,500 some so called specialists £12,250 (no wonder they lost the official Subaru franchise )
All this on a (UK supplied) car that cost over £27,000 16 months ago
Is the market for our cars really so crap as to cause 50% depreciation in 18months?? Granted my car has high (motorway) mileage, but even so 50% after 16 months? Even rep-mobiles and Ladas don't suffer so badly
And amazing how many dealers don't want to know you when you are not paying them to
Because of that, anyone interested in a *real* performance bargain, I'm open to offers

Gary,
I can see where you are coming from but its the extra that have caused the heavy depreciation. at £27,000 you must have had about 6,500 worth of extras. These will be worth hardly anything to dealer maybe around 25% of the original cost i.e about £1600. They will of course may a huge play about these when they try and sell it. There are a lot on the market at the moment with lower mileage but not the same spec.
The best thing maybe to try and sell the bits off separately and take a slightly lower part/ex price but make more on the second hand parts.
Just a thought
cheers

I agree with chrisp........
If you were to sell off the 'extras' and trade in your vehicle you will probably make another £2K (ish) on top of what you have been offered for the 'whole package'. Problem - as always - selling privately can sometimes take longer than you want (!)
Good luck,
Gastro

Aircon
Prodrive Performance Pack
17" Wheels
PIAAs
Tracker with Monitor
DBM paint
Hardly worthless/pointless options!! - and not 'bolt-on' bits that can be removed
The car alone has cost me almost £800 per month since buying it and thats before servicing/tax/insurance etc.. Don't get me wrong, it has been THE best car I have ever owned/run, and the smiles have been worth the money, but had I known it would cost £800/month to own......
C'est la Vie!!

My sympathies Gary C. Sounds like a top mobile for crap money. Dealers are just scum - I hate them all. Subaru dealers are just nicer about it but they're all the pits, just out to rip you off and no one can argue with that.
When I sell my scoob next year, yes I'll miss it as it is the best, but I won't miss the hassle and the cost. Long live the company car.

unfortunately, 'extra's' add absolutely no value to car when selling, what they do is add sellability i.e. one priced the same as another but with Air-con, the one with air-con will seem more attractive.
A good way to test this theory is if you lease a car, you'll find you have to pay for the 'extra' bits in full within your lease period. Test it on a couple of websites, I tried a Porsche Boxster and added 25k (yes £25,000) worth of extras and the rental shot from 650pcm to 1320pcm, and the final value of the car at the end of the 3 years was the same.
Of course when your buying a car it's different "look at all these extra's". Double standards I'm affraid.

Just sold my MY98 STi4 here in Hongkong. Bought new from dealers HK$300,000 (26k pounds), tried to sell it slightly over market 'value' but had to trade it in for a honda S2000 in the end at HK$140,000 (12.3k).
So thats a loss of almost 14k pounds over 2.5 years; 450 quid a month just on depreciation! thanks for reminding me Gary
Haven't complete left the scooby fold cos theres a sti6typer parked next to my new toy which I get to use

The only way to get your money back on a car with extras is to sell it privately.
Dealers will always give you book price, even if it was painted in 24k gold. Sometimes dealers will even offer you less if you have modded it.

Gary,
Try and sell it privately. I managed to sell my Type-R privately, and am now the happy owner of a 330D Sport. A brilliant car, despite what people might think on this bbs!
Good luck, and fingers crossed.
