Having just watched the in car footage it was revealing to see mr.burns attitude towards the few spectators who helped him get his car out of the snow. What a winging git, he ought to realise that the speccys are there to spectate and are not in the employ of subaru to get their drivers out of the ****, they do that because they want to help.
He just sat in the car winging.
It was interesting to note that when colin macrae got stuck, he bailed out and got stuck in with the fans to get his car out of the snow bank.

A bit strong miller. He was shouting to get the car moved but his rants were aimed at Robert Reid to get the shovel out of the boot. (The spectators wouldn't know where it was.) He just seemed a bit pissed off 'cos he cocked up; as I would be. Didn't you see the snow over the legs of his overalls in part of the clip; he had obviously been out of the car helping at one point.

by the way to messers squire + felstead, dont you realise it was the codrivers fault that he understeared into the snow bank...he he!

Funny how people view the same event in completely different ways.

When I saw Eurosports' footage, what I saw was an immensely frustrated driver who looked as if he was almost in tears. OK so he shouted at Robert, big deal.

He was unfortunate that there were only a couple of spectators at that point, and they needed the car's drive to help them out. Whereas with Colin's prang, there seemed to be half the population there to man-handle the car out of a ditch, and Colin had to help, because the only way out was to lift the car.

SDB,

Surely you've got it **** about face there my dear.

I simply can't beleive that anyone would actually drive like that if they ever acheived anything approaching conciousness?

So waking drivers up must be a sure-fire way of making them crash.

You're all loonies.

Cool

Mr Burns may well be a GT, but like all "proper" drivers he managed to have his accident on the co-drivers side.
Whats the difference between the soft roundy roundy boys and a rally driver?
Roundy round....Oh dear I didn't quite get that corner right, but never mind I've got another 10 goes at it.
Rally.....Oh dear I didn't quite get that corner right, never mind my clothes will be out of fashion when I hit the bottom!

[i agree with arron bird

there was only ever one good driver at subaru and that was colin mccrae.

Colin Mcrae made subaru what they are today because of the way he drove.Richard Burns tried to step straight into Colins shoes but he will never be Colin Mcrae

Dont you think you are being a bit hard on him???

Should he have said.

"Curse my shoddy driving, Robert would you be so kind as to get the shovel from the vehicles boot while I attempt to move our transport"

He is under a lot of pressure and was probly livid with himself for making a mistake. However its hard to shout at youself without being locked up.

I am sure Mr Ried will put it behind him and get on with his life so prehaps you should as well......

I don't think you can judge a driver (or co-driver for that matter) as a person on the basis of how they appear during a rally - particularly not in a high stress situation such as when RB was on top of the snow bank. We're talking about a professional sport where huge amounts of money are being spent by manufacturers to win rallies. When someone like Richard or Colin loses any chance of winning a rally as a result of making a small mistake it would be unreasonable to expect them just to say "yeah, whatever...". In fact if I was David Lapworth or Malcolm Wilson I'd be pretty hacked off if they weren't angry with themselves.

Over the years I've had the pleasure of meeting a lot of the guys who have competed in the British Championship in a non-competitive environment (I used to help shepherd the litle darlings round on the recce for the Scottish Rally). With one exception (his initials are RB and it isn't Richard!) they were all a damn good laugh and came across far better than they ever did when they were competing.

SDB - if you guys could tell the difference between "my left" and "your left" the world would be a much easier place

Having competed at World championship level in my chosen sport I can understand RB's frustration when something goes wrong so to say he is a tosser to my mind is very narrow minded.
Also get real lads we are talking only a few seconds difference in 20kms driving, thta doesn't mean that one is crap and the other is God.keep a perspective

Aaron,

Yes - I seem to remember Colin McRae kicking the s**t out of his Focus in the intro (taken when his throttle failed in the Monte).

I think you have to expect a bit of temprement from any top level competitor (unless your name ends in ..kkinen )

Cheers,

Alex

Alex, it was Burnsey`s fault he crashed so the blame is on him. Mc.Crae`s car let go again so he kicked the fuggin thing.
I have been on my side as a navigator and asked people to push us over and it`s all on in-car camera theonly swearing was at my brother for putting us there in the first place.

Cast your minds back if you will, When Grunholm won the world championship and returned to his service area the entire Peugeot team were there to greet him, when Burns came back into service having won the Netwok Q and finished second in the world championship he was greeted by his mum and his gran, team nowhere to be seen thus proving my original point, he's a ginger tosser!

Well, if I'd been the spectator, Subaru owner or not and he shouted and swore to me like that (and it was the speccies he was swearing at for looking at him, and not the co-driver), he'd been lying on his back in the snow. Then I'd video him pushing his own car out.
McRae was the true pro.
Burnsy, you're still second rate to him, with a lot to learn. you didn't do yourself or Subaru any favours for professionalism.

A friend of mine won the ANCRO F2, Junior and A6 class last year and when doing the Roger Clarke award was told by Richard Burns the only reason he won it was he had no competition. If Alister McReas old Hyundai and Higgins old works Nissan Sunny GTI in the hands of multiple British champions with years of experience is not then what is competition you arrogant w4nker Burns ???

Darren.

Edited due to hangover !!!!
