Default revs staying up

Hi can any one help me please, for a while now my revs have been staying up while changing gear at low revs and when coming to a stop at traffic lights the car ticks over at 1500 for a short while then jump back down to normal tick over, it is very anoying.

Has anyone else experienced this, could it be the maf?

my car's a 96 wrx impreza.

Thanks, Dan.

I had something similar on my old cavalier, it was a leaking vacuum hose meaning that there was a greater airflow into the throttle body. It's a simple check that won't cost anything
