Default ###A SAD DAY###

What a start to my Sunday .

Was driving to the in-laws this morning when I tuned onto Harley Street (at approx 5mph) and the engine started to make a loud knocking sound

Pulled over had a look under the bonnet, sounded like the noise was coming from the engine area. RAC arrived (within 20 minutes) and also said the same thing Just been towed home..........

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Car: MY00 (with 44K on the clock)

Was not nice seeing her on the back of a flat bed.

What did the RAC guy say?
If the bottom end has gone, he should have been able to identify the sound quite easily. Hopefully it's not that serious (loose crank pulley or other ancilliary), but it doesn't sound good.
Best of luck.

RAC man just said to start the car and then said it " it sounds like its coming from inside the engine" - Then called for the flat bed.

Yeah tell me about it - she only gets driven once every week or so. Cant believe she died on me. To top it all off my insurance and road tax are both due end of March

Does anyone know what type of turn around I should expect before she's back on the road?

happened to mine withen a few months of buying it (bottom end went at low speed as well) any way the garage i got mine from (fiat main dealer who took it in as a px) had it back in to look at it, and see if they could fix it within the warranty budget (no chance) of a grand, when they phoned me there conclusion was that it was deffinatley making some funny sounds WTF

i ended up having to put a grand towards it and managed to get it done for 2g

Good luck with the new engine.

This is exactly what I was trying to ask..
I thought scooby is a reliable car but why suddenly so many go bang at such low mileage?
I'm a little bit shocked and worried now...

I'm not sure anyone's written anything definitive, but much the same happened to me a few years back - my MY00 went at 62k miles for no good reason. Dealer reckoned it might have been a dodgy oil pump, but nothing was ever proved. You have my sympathy

In the meantime, you might like to have a read of:

Sorry to hear it

if it makes it any better mine went to ,iwas going to change the engine but the same could happen again.

So i choose to have my ra closed deck block rebuilt

i must say i opened a can of worms i to say i got carried a way a bit ,

i choose to rebuild it to take a safe 500bhp if wanted, but only running the ra at 350 bhp would be bullet proof i hope

this is what i choose for my build;

Mrt race rods (a spec) forged

forged pistons mahle

new ra crank

acl full race set bearings

uprated motorsport oil pump

uprated gasket set

new uprated plugs

fully rebuilt heads and rehoned

fast road clutch

cambelt and tensioners

the only problem with this is it comes at a price £3570.00

you could rebuild with standard parts for cheaper, but if you think about it they have already failed you once!!!!

the question i found myself asking a lot was while its apart now i may aswell do it.

got to drive 1000miles under 4k revs but ive only got 700 left to do ,then its happy days

cheers nathan

any help give us a shoot ive just gone though the same thing over the last 5 weeks only picked mine back up last weekend.
