Default Few questions about owning a Wrx

Hi,

I am looking to buy a WRX or STI in the next few months, but this will be my main car getting to work and back. Only 18 miles a day.

Because I will be driving in rush hour and it will be mainly busy, is there a way to turn down the boost, say with a boost controller, and does this actually make much difference to fuel economy.

Don't fancy wasting petrol when in rush hour.

Sorry for the noob question, but its been a while since I have owned a Turbo car.

Thanks

Nick

Welcome There are a few ways to turn down the boost but i dont think it will make any difference on a 18 mile stop start trip as you won't be using alot of boost anyhoo

Yeah I know what you mean, I used to have a Rover 220 Turbo Coupe and I always seemed to on boost. Just too much fun not to.

I have a hawkeye wrx and find that boost seems to kick in around 3200rpm.

Have to add that I find it uncomfortable driving in traffic as the clutch is heavy, so you may want to take this into consideration.

You should be driving off boost until the oil is up to temperature anyway by which time you will be at work

OR - get a scooter! I got fed up with spending 40quid a week in stop start traffic so bought a cheap one - spent some beer money on it to tidy it up. Costs me less than a fiver a week in fuel, next to nothing to insure and 15quid a year to tax!! Plus what would take 35 mins in traffic takes me about 16 on the bike! Happy days - I keep the scoob garaged for my fun days

I have a 50 mile daily round trip to work and back. Mixture of quiet dual carrageway to busy A road. See about 250 miles from a tank on my bog standard 2004 wrx waggon.
