Default Decision time - does the car go?

Hi

I've got an MY05 sti ppp on an 06 plate in good nick with 25k miles that is coming up to the end of its PCP agreement. I'd owe 8.9k balloon payment to keep it, and from what I have heard its maybe worth only 9k ish private.

I've been looking at my options for whats next, in light of the current economic stuff and starting a family pressures to get something more practical / affordable.

My options are -

1. Pay the balance, keep it, suffer the depreciation and enjoy it.
2. Hand it back and walk away
3. Accept the 10k Ive been offered to trade it in against an 07 forrester 2.5XT going for about 11k, and drive that for the next few years, as a more practical, discreet motor that both me and the mrs can drive.
4. Go for a used Forester Sti from Litchfields for 15k and keep that long term.

Ultimately they are all going to be worth nothing re sale after a few years, but I have enjoyed the subaru and look at the prospect owning something "ordinary" as terrible, plus for that sort of money what else are you going to get that has such a grin factor whilst having 4 seats and in the case of the forester, looking almost grown up and a lot more stealthy.

Anyone else in the same boat with a car that's getting a few years old?

Cheers

I may be wrong but won't a FSTI cost about the same to run ?

But a "grown up" choice, imho.

pcp? is that the same as hire purchase?

I was in the same situation if so.

I had a seat leon cupra on hire purchase, but opted to give it back as it wasnt economical to keep it.

If i were you i would say option 2.
Save the pennies and buy something you can both drive

Thanks for the reply

In all honesty yes, but thought the Forester was a better long term ownership proposition. The 400 a year on road tax alone would be a pain, and isn't that due to go up in the future?
