Default Adjustable bit in exhaust?

Hi,

Ive just bought a second hand exhaust. At the back of it there is a piece of thin metal like needle thick. like a leaver, when i twist it it seems to twist a cylinder inside the exhaust.

What the heck is it?

not sure photos will really show it.

There is a but in the middle. there is about a 1.5inch pip in the middle, and two flanks with big rectangular holes. THe whole of the middle rotates about 45 degrees. It does look like its deisgn to rotate, although there seems no method of locking it in one position or the other.

I guess ill find out on the weekend when i get it up, turn it whilst its running see if the DB meter shows a change.
