Just read yet another post re: car-jacking... I think it's worth trying to source some pepper spray, mace or even a tazer. Lets face it the police won't do f|_|ck all about it because they are more interested in setting up mobile speedtraps (Essex is ridiculous).

I *hate* sitting at traffic-lights and going through cities now because of these scum, it's time people hit back...bring on the pepper spray I say.

Could lock the doors?! It would at least just give you enough time to drive around the car in front (carefully!) if someone was trying to open the door...or we could all just get the Clifford anti-car jacking thingy...could just be overreating though...

Actually - good idea disco - if we all get a case we could use it on all the people that can't use a space bar... Not that I would condone violence..

Unfortunately this is ilegal in the UK, so any group buys could not be conducted on scoobynet I'm afraid.

Best regards

Contact lens cleaner (hydrogen peroxide solution) is legal to buy though and causes no lasting side effects. Ever got it in your eyes though

Burns like a ......

So are plenty of other household products that can be put in a container of some sort and squirted/lobbed at the offending ******.

There's more than one way to skin a car jacker!

Didn't Bertrand Gachot get 3 months in prison for using CS gas on a London Cabbie. If I remember correctly his place at Jordan then went to a certain Michael Schumacher...

Edited to say it was actually 6 months. Wonder what he would have got if he just kicked out the taxi driver and drove off in the cab instead?

Why doesn't someone start a yahoogroup called scoobynet so that any issues that SDB doesn't want discussing here can be discussed there?

good idea... Sorry Si, if it's caused offence (indeed sorry anyone). I just feel that things are getting beyond a joke (I don't think I would seriously consider getting the stuff! - a big maglite should do the trick )

Keep a camera in the glove box. If someone runs into the back of you take there picture as they get out of the car. Then you've at least got it if they do turn out to be a car jacker. Then again, they could always take the camera off you and lamp you over the head for being cheeky.

What happens if you activate the alarm whilst the engine is started?

I'm just thinking of keeping the alarm fob seperate from the keys?

I knew that CS gas was illegal, but thought pepper spray was bought over the counter by women as protection against attacks?
I know a guy who teaches self defense who can get it quite easily.

CS gas (which isn't actually a gas but an alcohol based crystalline solution) is classified as a Section 1 firearm. This puts it in the same league as a sawn-off shotgun.

I have no reason to believe that Mace and pepper sprays are classified any differently.

If you chose to 'risk it' you can buy this sort of stuff on a well known auction website. Personally, I will stick to my Mag-Lite.

Thumbs down

Save your money Tasers are crap IMHO. All the thief does is smash it off whilst wearing rubber gloves, or better still wait for the battery to drain.

Did nobody else smile at the way scoobychick suggested "show em a photo of Imatruckarse" and webbie replies "Sorry this is illegal"?

Otherwise, reasonable force is always the rule. Maglites supposedly are there as torches, pepper spray or CS gas is a nasty one-purpose armament. So, carry a bottle of extra viscious car-related spray (windscreen cleaner? Polish with major petroleum distillate ingredient?) and I think you will have a legal but effective solution.

Hmm, solution... spray... I'll get me coat

what about some Holts '****-brown Vanden Plas Alegro' spray?

or... what about that stuff that they use to colour money if it's stolen, they wouldn't be able to get it off

if they have a permanently blue face they would be easy to find at least (crackle, this is PC Plod, keep an eye out for a Smurf about 6 feet tall) ... sheesh, I crack myself up sometimes.

There is surely no law against painting someone blue or alegro brown, especially if they are trying to nick your car! Where can you get it from?

I don't think there is a law against painting someone blue although alegro vanden plas brown is surely an offence.

What would happen though if the paint blinded them though?

Oh, I guess they would stop car jacking people.

Maybe you could keep lighter fluid in the car?

joeydeacon

i've worked with bg. his chokey anecdotes are quite interesting (no snout, instead selling phonecards and writing/reading letters for illiterate cons).

he's unfeasibly tall for an f1 driver (johnny herbert barely comes up to his shoulders) and was known to race with his seat removed when he ran the pacific-ford team so he could fit his legs in the cockpit.

coincidentally enough, he now does a lot of work on engine testing with STI in japan, plus operates the www.f1i.com web site. good guy.

any conclusions about the best way forward with this?

does pepper spray have normal pepper in it? if so could u grind pepper down and put it in a spray bottle with water?

also- im planning on buying an attack dog so will pepper effect the dog too?

Deoderant works just as well.

You could get one of thoes small bottles of impulse and put a hot needle in the nozzle to give more of a jet. It is not illegal to carry, unless the sherrif finds out you have doctored it.
The cops would also be able to catch them as they would stink a mile off.

Cheers
