Question CAN PLOD GET AWAY WITH THIS???

On the Dual Caraiageway A449 towards Newport Southbound, Plod used to have Camera Vans Parked in the Layby.

He had Speed Camera Signs placed ahead of this little Greed Camera Site.

However, after a while people got wise to this and REVENUE Sorry, Safety opportunities deminished.

Plod stopped parking there as helping us be more safe, was not such a successful little project (you could say an early indicator of the credit crunch) indeed, A Black Dust Bin Liner was wrapped around the Greed Camera Sign with a sign saying no longer active.

Today I was coming north & there was Plod with his Gun resting on the top of his open car door "helping motorists with his safety gun"

I looked back, there was the Greed Camera Sign Still with the Black Bin liner wrapped around it.

Can they get away with this?

I was under the impression they had to have a waring sign in a set distnce away from the object?

Interesting to hear your thoughts AND ANY LOCALS FROM THAT AREA PASS ON ANY COMMENTS???

Mind how you go.

Regards

Traffic officers with radar, Truvello or lidar can do it wherever they like. At least thats proper enforcement.

If a scamera is not marked up then it's legal but the force in question does not keep the proceeds it goes into the national pot.

If however its clearly marked then said force can keep every fine.

That's what I read a year or two ago.
Also a camera can be placed into any area within two miles of a speed calera sign.

Pretty much these toss bags can do whatever the hell they want.

unless a lower speed limit is signed (big white one with a red circle around it and a black number in it) then its 70 on a dual carriageway.

How big a reminder do you want, for Goodness sake?

Whatever you were reading must have been old then, because that was changed well over a year ago. The police do not get any part of the revenue, no matter how the camera is operated.

My point is, the Warning Sign was covered by a Black Plastic Bag.

I thought they had to have a sign up???

As mentioned above, for static cameras there has to be a sign, however for mobile type then they can do it anywhere. Thats why they even give handhelds to civilians in some areas so they can "police" traffic

Not true, under the netting off process the partnerships (not the real police) were meant to have signs up (but it was not a bar to a succesful prosecution) since the netting off process finished 18 months ago and now fines go back to 'central funds' (aka A Darlings bottomless pit) there isn't even that requirement in place.

Just to amplify: even then the signs were only required if you wanted the money back. If you didn't care, the signs weren't required even then either.
