How to setup a KS3 Knock Analyser??
#5
Thanks
I set the KS3 to -6.0 hz and the gain is set at -11. I get a maximum knock reading of 40 as i go through the rev range.
I took it for a hard drive and on one occasion at approx. 7000 rpm i got a knock count of 93 so i backed off!!!
I guess i got det.!
Is it normal to get abit of knock occasionally if driven hard or should i be worried???
Thnks

Duncan,
The Phormula website videos suggest that 40 is a baseline figure to work the gain level against (presuming that there is no knock anyway).
The video shows a gain of 20 being used.
On a standard hawkeye, the only suitable location for my sensor was on a bolt securing the drivers side IC bracket, right on the middle of the block edge joint to g/box bellhousing.
I had to increase gain to 10 in order to hit the 40 level and I'm assuming there was no knock.
I'd suggest that the only way of setting up the KS3 effectively is during remapping, unless anyone else has devised a foolproof method.
Harry,
The hard drive should have been how the KS3 should have been set up.
Unless you think that you have pre-existing det, then turn down the gain, one point at a time between hard runs, until you get a max of 40.
If you turn the gain all the way down and still get high "knock" levels then its time to get the car looked at - if the engine didn't let go doing the above.

that is the correct location..
assuming the 93 is whilst accelerating and not whilst changing gear or bouncing off the limiter then it sound like you have det.

The first time was at a gain of -11 and the second time at a gain of -9!
I have spoken to Neil at Slowboy racing about having the turbo, exhaust, manifold, injectors etc... fitted.
I think he has contacted you regarding the mapping.
I'll give him a call tomorrow and see if i can get the car booked in this week.
Thanks

Good thing i fitted the KS3 I have just finished heatwrapping the manifold and downpipe.
I will give Neil a call tomorrow and try and get the car booked in, look forward to having the car mapped by yourself. Do you map on the road?
I am having the following fitted by Neil:
TD05 18G turbo
650cc flow matched injectors
Walbro fuel pump
Kakumei GT spec manifold
Kakumei 3" Turbo back exhaust
Apexi AVCR
If i change the backbox in the future will at need the map tweaking??
Thanks

I bought the car thinking the only engine modification it had was the PPP. I had it put on a rolling road recently, it made 325bhp and 287lb torque. Looks like it has had a remap after the ppp.
The car seems to run fine throughout the rev range, i have been driving it hard all day today and the highest knock count i got was 44.
The car will be getting a remap very soon so i guess it will all be sorted very soon
Thnks
