thanks mate ive just had a look on the polar perfomance site & the already mapped chip at £195 seems very good value as the esl is bit outta my price range, is this a case of just pushing the chip in? ive read some old posts about the scoobyecu & saying some need a socket board soldering in & others have the socket so few minute job? thanks again

you get a socket with the chip (i think you can even buy another ecu with the chip already soldered into it by Scott himself iirc) OR just save some money for the Live mapping which if you are going to be doing more engine mods would work out to be more cost effective.

I think that Scott Taylor and David Wallis were behind the original ScoobyECU (but its a long time ago and I cant remember: I do remember Scott selling them for next to f*ck-all though). Most JDM cars wont have a socket, so youll have to buy one with a socket and fit it / have it fitted, or use a UK ECU whichll have the socket in place. When you have a socket itll be a simple push fit. I think that they offer a re-mappable solution now, that comes supplied with a normal ScoobyECU base map. This looks like an ideal compromise as it gives the benefit of the live mappable device, but without all of the upfront cost associated with dyno time. Depending on the price this is what Id go for...

sounds good thanks for the advice, just looking on ebay theres a couple of ecu's with the chips already installed maybe a cheaper option? as otherwise it would cost £275 for a ecu with a socket then the chip , is there a differnt pin plug between the early & late classic? cheers

A UK ECU with a socket can be bought for about £50 (maybe less, theyre worthless really), all you need to do to that is add the cost of the solution.

Import wise 93-96 are 4 pin after that they are 3 pin don't know if the UK are different though.
depends what the chips are tbh as there a re lot out there that are a bit 'ahem' imo

For the not much cost of them, it's worthwhile replacing the fuel pump. Especially if it is the one your car left the factory with, it may be getting a little tired.
