Is it not because they are not getting the sti so are taking it to the limit of their emmisions to try to sell it ?
And yes I did make this up but it could be an answer

Thumbs down

This weeks Autocar has a (tiny) article about the New Impreza WRX being launched in the USA (page 19).

Seems due to different tuning, the US version has 12bhp more than the UK version.

Not a huge amount more, but possibly enough to make up for the extra bulk.

No doubt it's cheaper in the USA as well.

So, what's going on with the UK Model?

Saying that. The US version only gets 16 inch wheels and more importantly only gets twin pot brakes at the front. I know what i'd rather have

US Price will probably be ~£12k. You can buy a lot of Brmebos and fancy alloys with the savings. How much extra do you think 4 pots and 17"ers cost Subaru - not much.

I'd be surprised if it made MORE power....US petrol is nearer to paraffin/watney's red barrel...they still have 87 RON for &%*$s sake!!

As for the price - sadly that's in line with general US/UK pricing differences on cars.

(Although you rarely hear of the things that are MORE expensive in the states - climbing and ski-ing gear, for example - much to my annoyance)

Cool

The USA car does have 227bhp and although it does come with 16" wheels 17" are a factory option, not sure about the pricing of those yet.

The prices are $23995 for the 5 door and $24495 for the saloon. Thats approx UKP15921 and UKP16593 respectively.

Although we do have 87 RON petrol we also get 92 and 94 RON.. These numbers are calculated differently to the UK using the RON +MON /2 method. So I believe that USA 92 RON is the equivalent of 95 ron in the UK.

Last week, I asked Subaru's head of public relations why we did not get the 4 pot brakes and he stated cost as the reason.

He also stated that we shall be getting the STI in approx 2 years provided demand for the WRX warrants it.
