second hand or recon gearbox?

WHAT ARE YOUR EXPERIENCES IN BUYING SECOND HAND OR RECON GEAR BOXES ,WHERE FROM(SALVAGE YARDS) COMPANY NAMES ,PRICES ,GOOD ONE, BAD ONE ETC. I DONT WANT TO BE TUCKED UP AND I WANT THE BEST CONDITION I CAN GET

Where about are u ? why dont u have yours rebuilt ? i know someone who could do it he is based in coventry

Id go for recon to be on the safe side as you dont know what condition one off a breaker will be in.

thanks for reply nik im in middlesex so its too far but any chance you would know how much so i can compare others ?

In all honesty if a 5th gear and say syncro went and was then replaced, the box could be sold as a recon.
As with an engine!
Be careful when buying a recon. make sure you get what you're paying for
