Default Tax Disc Renewal Help

My mate bought a Laguna privately after the previous owner bought a new car.The tax runs out at the end of June on the Laguna and it needs new springs fitted to get through the MOT which has expired and this wont be done by the first of July.

Also the paperwork is not back from having the private number changed over to the previous owners new car.Obviously the MOT needs to be done before a tax disc can be issued and I was wondering if you still get 14 days grace to renew the tax disc or does the fine that DVLA impose kick in before that. Will the car need to be put on a SORN on the first of July - it is currently off the road sitting in my drive.

If it's not going to be on the road before the end of June, then you'll have to declare SORN to avoid any fine.
You will be allowed however to drive to an approved MOT station after the end of June if it is pre-booked and once passed, you'll be able to apply on-line or at an authorised Post Office to obtain a new license disc, providing you have insurance cover and the V5 or an application for a new vehicle keeper. There is no "grace" as such now.
