Which do you prefer? Getting your car mapped on a RR or on the actual road? Whats the benefits other than the obvious...You can tell what it is like to drive

Oops, posted wrong vote. Prefer road mapping. Always had better results in terms of driveability and power delivery.

The reason I ask is I believe Tractive solutions who will be mapping mine do it on the road and don't give a RR printout. Someone who had one done there was told it was roughly XXX bhp and later found out that the figure was really ambitious! It was in fact considerably lower. (20 bhp)

Choose a mapper that you trust to get the very best from your car, forget numbers. Doesn't sound like you trust them tbh which isn't a good place to start. Testing on Rollin' Roads will return varying figures and its best to gauge your cars increased ability from the road mapped/recorded WHP

i prefer road mapping, then the mapper can map your car so your spercific driving style.where as on the RR its a case of foot down and try to get the best results.

Mine gets done at scoobyclinic and they map on the rollers then they take it on the road for a final tweak. So I doubt it would make that much difference if it were mapped on the road or the rollers

Codswallop , if you wish to go fast you give it full throttle...
When mapping for someone the other day he said " Do you need to know how I drive my car " I replied not really , as it doesn't matter a flying fig...
The rolling road is a fantastic tool when it comes to mapping , but road mapping has its place too....
I prefer to do both , building 95% of the map on the rollers and the last 5% on the road...

IMO the RR is fine for the intial MAP but the final tweeks need to be done on the road as the temps etc can differ so much.

on the road best in my opinion as the air flow of road driving cannot be simulated on the rollers.

but mapping on rollers then tweaking on the road when done seems like best of both worlds

Spot on

Road mapping for me.
Forget figures, as dyno's/rolling roads differ so much.

do mappers have a general sort of map they try and achieve then or is it driver specific? For example lots of people go for stage 1 mods, exhaust, decat, panel filter fuel pump then mapped. Do mappers have a general sort of map for them mods thenm tweak to individual car or ask the driver....do you want it all at once then over or flat spead out or all at high revs?

From my limited experience...........1 road map and 1 rr map.......

Initially the mapper will put on a general map depending on the mods added, then they begin tweaking whilst performing the in gear power runs.

I have not been asked where I want the power etc to come in......I just leave it to the mapper as they are the experts and imo they do their best to get the best results that they can.

It depends on each car and how the load affects it under boost! The car would be mapped according to how it fuels on the road !

before anyone says anything it should be noted that there is no way to amp a car on the road legally, unless its on a racetrack with a long straight.

by mapping it on dyno then road finishing then, while you dont remove the need to break the law, you reduce it greatly.

and lets face it, there's no known difference between them both, not even mappers agree with each other on the subject, which would indiucated any advatages of either

Mine was mapped on the road and it's amazing!! Mapped for mid-range, proper driving, real world driving conditions instead of out-and-out top-end firgures. Very happy with it

If you can't be bothered to read that, conclusions:

Mapper most important, method secondary!

Most road mappers use RRs and most RR mappers will at least test on the road, so it's a false dichotomy. Both environments have their pros and cons.

My 2 cents: you drive your car on the Road, not the RR. I'm not convinced any RR is completely representative of conditions the car is subjected to on the road (and I've yet to see any evidence that it is) and arguably the two premier mappers of Subaru's in the UK are both confirmed road mappers!

So majority say road then that's good. The place where I am getting mine done does not have a RR that's all. I felt robbed
