buying a Impretza
A friend of mine is looking to buy a black WRX STi 2.0l with the 320 PPP, its done 37'000 and is on a 05/55 and there asking for £11k. What kind of things should he be looking for ie: engine, suspension, transmission, bodywork, service history, documentation of PPP ???
Any help is appreciated. Tom

He should be looking for all of the above, If any of them are missing I would forget it and look elsewhere
Use the search on here and you will find lots of good advice and what to be looking out for.

Ok, so which every dealer is selling it has got his figures wrong maybe the 320 PPP relates to the 2.5l ??? But thanks for the info
So I'm right in thinking that the 2.0l WRX STi is completely bullet proof...... no factory recalls or common faults? As my knowledge is limited to theC20LET and the E6 and my mates is no existant with turbo engines let alone 4x4 systems :P

The engine etc is good mate. Rear suspension may knock around that sort of mileage so check for that. The struts go on them apparently. Check for PPP certificate as it should come with one. Check whether or not it is an import as many are EU imports- Not a problem but they are lower spec. They dont have mats,alarm/tracker,locking wheel nuts and prob wont have service history. Normal things to look out for is tyre wear, smoking turbo etc. If it is due a service, get the price down as they are not cheap! Discs/pads are expensive too so if looking a little worn...barter!
05 plates came with the newer style interior,DCCD as standard, wider track with arch extensions and a few other bits and bobs. A good choice to purchase!

Get him to give it some beans too, and check out the brakes for juddering at high speed etc.
Clarkie summed it up well tbh, shocks are a common fault on them, potential to barter the price if they are knocking, easily cured with some adj aftermarket shocks, deffo not the OEM part as it just happens again.
Look out for smoke upon startup around the exhaust.
The UK engines are very good, but peripharals like disks, pads, tyres, service pending can have him reaching further into the wallet.

oh yeah!
and the black/mica is a right **** to keep clean...lol
But its a lovely colour
Just get it on some nice roads with corners and listen for cranking and genrally funny noises when turning etc, turning on full lock etc, you should be there a good hour IMO looking around it, probably even longer.
Check all electrics/lights etc etc, even that it goes in reverse....I once sold a car with the syncro fvcked and you had to turn off the engine to get it in reverse.....naughty me
...you'd be suprised how many ppl don't do it.Its always good to take a mate to see stuff you won't, most ppl will decide within 2 mins of seeing the car if they want it or not, hopefully the weather will be ok to see any bodywork imperfections.
