I'm new to the scooby clan havin just bought a WRX 2 weeks ago, Having a blast so far as it's now run in, but I am experiencing a few probs on the servicing front.

The car is a European import but full UK spec car, brought in by Trade Sales in Slough. They, very helpfully, did not supply a service book, so I do not have the PDI stamp either. Having no joy getting hold of it.

One Subaru garage in Perth refuse to service it at all - is this illegal? Another will only do it if registered with Subaru UK, but they won't register it unless I have a sales invoice from the original main dealer, which I don't. Anyone else had this problem?

Not sure about this one, they cannot refuse to service it just because it's an import, but if you don't have the service book with the PDI stamp, not sure. I didn't think it had to be registered with IM to get it serviced, you will obviously want to do this but i thought it was only for the warranty??

but only after persuasion and at risk of Subaru UK finding out
this is bull****, find out what? I don't suppose they had any problems accepting your money did they. I've had my 1000 miler and it's not registered yet, sounds like they're trying to make out they're doing you a favour, but who pays for favours.

Contact subaru Belgium and see if you can get some help from them with regards to getting a service book, but first chase up Trade Sales, they should have supplied a service manual with your car, if they wont help ask them for contact details of the dealer they sourced the car off.

Hope this is of some help.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree it is bull. I am working on Trade sales but they are being very slow and claim problems getting the paperwork form their supplier (who is an intermediate). Have written to their customer service with an angry letter. I have my own warranty anyway, but just want the service book with the PDI for a full history.

As far as Subaru UK "finding out" they almost made out the heavy hand would come down. This "cartel" arrangement is showing through, but they are cutting off their nose to spite their face as the money is in servicing.

It is also a legal requirement to have the original invoice from the european dealers, vat invoice and certificate of conformity.IM required all three for the warrenty and also for the PPP!!! (which I have been waiting 10 weeks for now and there is still no sign of it!!!

You MUST have these else the tax man could be knocking on your door I believe!

You should be aware that Trade sales in Slough have a pretty awful
reputation localy, so keep pushing them for the information

Is your WRX an EU import or an European import?

Because if it is the latter than Subaru UK (IM) Ltd, have no legal requirement to service it or to carry out warrenty work etc, by law they only have to work with cars which are sourced from the European Union and not other parts of Europe.

What code does the VIN number start with? As I think EU VIN numbers have a different sequence of letters to Non EU VIN numbers.
Maybe someone with a WRX could let you know what it should start with.

HTH ian

P.s. I was at Tradesales the other week and was looking at a WRX which incidently was to UK spec, and I asked if it was sourced from outside the Eu, and was told that the car I was looking at was either from Cyprus or Malta.

sorry Ian am I missing something, what is the difference between an EU and a European import, is EU not an abreviation for Europe/European?

By this I guess your refering to the difference between belgium/holland (full UK spec) import and cyprus/malta (not full UK spec) import, the later I agree IM to not have to service and maybe that is the shortfall here, m1's car has been imported from cyprus/malta.

Do Trade Sales have a website, I'd like to take a look at how they spec the cars. I guess when I talk about EU import I automatically think of belgium and holland.

Strange dealer attitude. Montys of Sheffield said they would be only too pleased to service my MY02 Belgian import.

IF THE CAR IS A EUROPEIAN CAR YOU CAN HAVE IT SERVICED AT A MAIN AGENT BUT IF IT IS A JAP/GRAY THEY WILL NOT TOUCH IT
THIS IS NOT BECAUSE THEY DONT WANT TO IT IS BECAUSE IF IM GET WIND OF THIS THE AGENT WILL LOSE THE FRENCHIZE

BL,
when you go in for your 1000mile service, give your dealer a copy of original invoice so they can register it with IM. but i wouldnt worry too much because if you do have a problem that needs a part replaced they arnt too helpfull!!
