Question Timing belt bolt sheared off!

Hi

Has anyone every experienced the above problem? I have a 2002 Impreza WRX and would like some advice from anyone who has experienced the same problem wth theirs.

Dont they usually replace these when they replace the timing belts?

I have only had the car for 5 months - bought with fsh but the bolt came off whilst I was drivingit on Friday - dont know why!

Its not unknown for the retaining bolt to shear - normally bends quite a few of the valves in the process. Sometimes the spacer/pivot bush siezes to the bolt and does'nt allow the tensioner to pivot or the tensioner bolt can be overtightened and then shears in use.
