Urgent advice needed on wheel fitment with spacers
Hi all sorry if this is not been posted in the correct area but I need advice asap as I am off to pick up my car from the dealer tomorrow morning and would love to be armed with as much info as possible

Ok last year I had front AP 6 pots fitted by Zen , they where 2 big to clear the alloys (oz Prodrive ones) so spacers and longer wheel threads where used so the brake would clear the wheel . Perfect no issues and great brakes .
I dropped my car off today to have its 30,000 service (2 years) and some warranty issues looked at , which I really had to fight for him to look at and from the sounds of it some of them will not be fixed
however tonight he rang me to say that he didnt think my car was safe to drive and that they where not going to give the car a test out on the road as its not safe for his guys to drive it. I asked him to explain, he told me that due to using spacers the wheel was not sitting on the hub and only the threads are supporting the weight of the car which is not safe
Can some one please advice me on this ?

If your spacers are as wide as the hub centre spigot then only the nuts/studs support the wheel, this is not accepted as safe.
The nuts/studs are there to facilitate a clamping force onto the hub, the wheel is secured and centralised by the hub, without support from the centre hub it is possible that the studs could shear under load as the extra forces imposed by no centre spiggot support are greater than they were designed to withstand.
I had similar issues when fitting Brembo's to my WRX and had to order 10mm Eibach Hubcentric spacers from Revolution.
Hubcentric spacers are machined to the correct size etc with a hub to mount and support the wheel and are in turn supported by the standard hub.

only thing is zen had a look at the car today and have told me that there is no prob at all with it..... which seems odd as its not on the hub spigot at all ......... the spacer used is just a round plate with no added spigot.

the warranty issues referred to are trim related and therefore have no link with any mods . The wheel fitment issue was not part of the warranty claims

As a solution cheap spacers stink, cries the engineer in my head !
But I ran spacers on a car years ago when I was young and hard-up....

Yep but what I am trying to understand is what’s the best way to go forward the 2 view points are far from each other one is saying that there is no prob and the other is saying that its not safe ….. Will give rev a call tomorrow and see what they recommend as they sell spacers… the only other way is to buy new alloys I suppose but I really love the ones I have ….

I had to run 15mm spacers on my car when I fitted STi brembos and it was awfull, the handling was cak, in the end I got a set of STi7 wheels which are designed to fit the brembos. If I was you I would buy a correctly sized set of wheels, not only will they look better and be safer but the car will handle better once you bin the spacers.
